Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone has tried taking riamet for babesia.

My Dr. wants me to try the three day course.

Just wondering how well people are tolerating it.

Thanks again!

Do a search on riamet here on the board.

There were a couple of members who I recall having taken it

And posted about it. Hope this helps.

Hugs,

Geneal

Riamet was recently approved here in the USA and marketed under the name Coartem.

I just finished a course of it a couple days ago.
Prior to starting the mediation my Babesia symptoms were really flaring. Symptoms got worse during the 3day course of treatment but have now subsided. Hopefully the results will last.

This was my first treatment with Coartem and I feel like it is too soon to tell how helpful it has been. I tend to experience flares at least once a week that last a day or two.

If I can make it a couple weeks without these flares then I would call this treatment a success. Until then, we'll just have to wait and see.

I've heard others say that Riamet/Coartem helped reduce their symptoms temporarily but did not fully cure them. I'm hoping for the full cure or at least remission.

Please come back and let me know how you do with your treatment.

All I know who have taken it several years ago did fine. No particular reaction. Some people needed two courses a few weeks apart.

Some people had high dose artemesinin before or after. Yes, do a search here.

Take care.

I tried it once, all babs symptoms faded after the 3rd day... only to come back two weeks after, but less strong than initially.

I Have had three courses over a year and still my babesia tests were positive. I had no side effects. My FSH test from Igenex went negative but the IGM from Quest and Lab Corp has been positive for MANY months once goign abck to 1:1280. My children had Babesia Duncani besides the Babesia Microti so I truly beleive I have that too and hence it is much harder to get rid the Babesia as a whole.
