My friend was diagnosed with Lyme by a LLMD last April.

Unfortunately the primary physician adamently stated that there was no Lyme, intimidating my friend into stopping abx.

Since then the 24/7 headaches have gotten worse.

Now the headaches seem to be in a cycle of increasing in severity every other week.

Accompanied by slurred speech and unsteady gait for 4 to 7 days.

I am desperately trying to get my friend to see the Lyme doctor again.

Does anyone know what could be the reason for this cycle?

Hello Turtle

Has your friend had a cat scans or anything done?

I really never had headaches of any kind until I was infected with Lyme. Mine were pretty much the same pattern as your friends.

I was on doxy and a migraine med that I have to take twice a day to help control the symptoms.

My other symptoms came back and now I am on ceftin with the migraine meds.

I still get the bad headaches but they are alot less frequent.

Also if your friend is a female I read that you can get flare up with hormonal changes.

Well, lyme disease itself gives a person lots of headaches, and they can be 24/7. Then, if you also have babesiosis, you can really have the headache from hell.

My lyme doc told me babs has a 7-day cycle and a 14-day cycle. I experienced them both. What happened was every 7 days I had a 2 day period of symptom flares. Eventually, with treatment, it retreated to a 14-day pattern where I had a symptom flare every 14 days.

So, this is what I think is going on with your friend--lyme and babs for sure. A 14-day cycle with a 7 day flare.

When the headache is so severe (migraine-like) I have no problem believing it leads to slurred speech and unsteady gait. Babs also makes a person feel dizzy and tipsy, so that leads to an unsteady gait for sure when symptoms are flaring.

Look at the post at the top if Medical called "Lyme Disease and Coinfection symptom list" and you will see her symptoms under babesiosis (but not the slurred speech).

So, that is what comes to mind when I hear a 14 day cycle of symptom flares.

Thank you for sharing your experiences. I agree that the headaches are from Babesia. That was part of the diagnosis.

If I could convince my friend of that.
