It has been a month or so since i've been here but am sill going in my treatment.
I just started flagyl yesterday. Feeling some tremors this morning.
I am so hopeful that this will make a dent in Lyme for me.
What tips or experiences have you had with this antibiotic.
Thanks!

I took it with another med that kills the regular form of lyme. I hope you are also on another med that kills lyme in its spirochete form.
I had my first herx on this combo. It was 4 days of feeling bad and 3 more of feeling half bad.
Herx started on day 3.
If it happens, you know you are killing cysts and the lyme has no way to hide because your other med kills it in its other form.
My lyme doc had me drink lots of water and eat lots of lemons to cleanse the body of the dead germs, toxins, etc. This way, the herx is much more bearable. Do this throughout lyme treatment.
I squeezed the lemons into water and just drank that all day long. It worked for me.
If you herx, mark the first day of the herx. Then, mark 28 days later on your calendar and see if it happens again.

Hi Sofi,
I did 1000 mg of Flagyl for 2 weeks. I was very nervous about it as I had heard horror stories about this drug.
I didn't think it was that bad. I had the runs and I also had lots of brain fog (much more that usual). I believe this medicine works. I think it had an effect on my swollen lymph nodes. My doctor (not an LLMD) does not want me to take for another 3 months. He says that it will mess up your system.
I'll probably do another 2 weeks in a little while.
That said, it's hard to tolerate. ( for most ) My worst trouble with it was depression. It got really bad! So keep that in mind if you get depressed. It's the drug.
Do be aware also that you can get neuropathy from it. If it gets bad, be SURE to let your dr know.
Good luck!!

I am on it now. I tend to agree with TF but I will do what my doc rec.s for now. The rash I have on my back spine I think says it all.

Thanks so much for your input. I'm on day 3 now. I am taking other antibiotic too. Amoxi with Probenecid.
Starting to feel fluish tonight.
I'm supposed to stay on the flagyl for 30 days.

sofi, best wishes.
i herxed bad on day 5 while on here no less! my regular dr. had me stop this immediately.
my llmd's office did NOT get back to me from detailed phone call of all symptoms that hit me NOR by email; i dropped him immediately and went out of state... never on it again.
2nd llmd went to supplements; made me worse, and fatigue just awful.

I was on small doses of Flagyl twice for 6-8 weeks with just Nystatin. Guess what? My symptoms came roaring back.
I later read that some LLMD's combine it with a cell wall drug (ceftn, amoxy, etc.) for best results.
I think I was opening those cysts and those little critters were having a field day.
I hope to go back to Flagyl again in the future, but I'm afraid of herxing especially since I'm working full time now. I'm still symptomatic, though.

when Tindamax was added to the doxy I was already taking, it made a huge difference! The combo seems to get to the neuro symptoms much better than doxy alone did.
