i have not been taking antibiotics for a couple of months now.
i've been feeling rather crappy doing the herbal thing and they really didn't do anything or at least i didn't think they did. other than irritate my stomach.
so i took one biaxin and one flagyl yesterday in the morning around 8. by 10 i was sweating so bad that when i did dishes, it was running off my head into the sink. my hair was absolutely soaked (it's pretty short). i finally had to go get a washcloth and wipe my face and neck.
then i started getting like a numb feeling all over and my jaw felt like it was going to crack. in front of the right ear felt like it was pretty swollen and my ears really hurt. the ringing was terrible.
it cleared up and then around 4 started again. i mean it was pouring off, but it was just my head. my bp was through the roof and i was so nervous and anxious, i was half tempted to go the ER. talk about anxiety - i was practically bouncing off the walls.
then the stomach pain started. it went under the right rib and straight through to the back. i went in, laid down, and cried it hurt so bad. then i just walked the floor.
this went on until about 9 when i decided i had to try and rest, so i took two alleve, one elavil and swore that if that didn't work, i was taking everything in the medicine cabinet (which is substantial).
this morning i took the biaxin and flagyl again and started sweating but it wasn't so bad.
soooo, what in the world was happening? herx?
i thought ok, maybe i just better stick with antibiotics and stay the course.
oh man, i was sick....

There's no rhyme or reason for this stuff. Sounds like a herx to me. I get the pain in the jaw too, left one though. It feels like the upper joint muscle is clamping down in a spasm. It's painful. I find myself clenching my teeth. I started bactrim about 3 wks ago and have noticed this has gotten better as well as joint pain. Stay away from your medicine cabinet. Hope your better today.

well shoot, then i'll have to head for the liquor cabinet!!!
or just give up and get out the ole lemon water, epsom salts and perioxide baths....

It could be a herx...not sure. The stomach stuff can be from the Biaxin itself, because it speeds up intestinal transit, can cause gas and cramping stuff. Biaxin combined with FLagyl is a REALLY good combination and it's nice and strong. I'd say keep it up and see what happens. I had really good results with those meds.

I was dx'ed with Lyme partly because of an abx challenge. I took Biaxin and Flagyl to see if I herxed. My LLMD thought if I could take those and not feel worse that I didn't have Lyme. Apparently, it is a pretty strong combination.

I have never had a sweating problem...but once I started on the Biaxin, I had to take 2-3 showers a day b/c I was sweating thru my clothes. (Night & day sweats)
I was describing it to people kinda like a hot flash that lasted all day.
Biaxin has caused me the worst herx I have ever experienced in 10 months of abx. I think it is hitting my babs real good.

keeps us posted please on if this combo does seem to be doing something if you are able to continue...
i know i am interesting in outcome !! i was give biaxin way early on in tx and not since..and no cyst buster hitters yet bc of still IgM bands.
keep us posted !!!
sorry herbals did not work...i know the change in our LLMD causing financial strain of patients with recent changes...i found one in houston who takes my ins. and agreed to take my case on. very, very blessed and grateful !!!

can get a blood test that will determine if it was
heart related. If it happens again get to a ER to
get checked out. It could have been herz but I had
rather be sure. The blood test will show usually
between 3 and 10 hrs post. But could be there
longer.

I don't think anyone can say for sure if it was a Herx or not.
The theory of stirring up the infection could also be, as you may have sent some Kets running.
Who knows, except that there is a direct correlation between the meds and your symptoms.
Remember, feel worse before you feel better. And by all means, take food with those pills as they can cause severe stomach issues.
