I can tell a big difference in terms of herxing, between whether I take Biaxin XL (the brand) vs. whatever Clarithromycin I am getting at Walmart.
Has anyone else noticed that????
I know some generics can be pretty inferior to their brand counterparts.
Or perhaps with this, it's the fact that my Clarithromycin doesn't come in "XL," which means extended release in this case.

None noticed here I tried both, wish they didn't give me terrible insomnia otherwise I would still be taking this.

Curious...how do you take the Biaxin XL...1) once a day take two pills or 2) do you take them one in the morning and one at night? Does it matter if you are on other abx?

i noticed a difference - this was my experience:
started on biaxin xl and then switched to the generic
a mistake at pharmacy - they gave me clarithromycin not the clarithromycin ER
they do make the extended release in the generic
but instead of mine saying xl it says ER
once they switched it back to the extended release (even in the generic form) - i again had good results

Monica,
I take 1 twice a day.
Njlymemom,
Thanks. Good to know.
Actually, I just realized that I re-started another new antibiotic at the same time I switched to the real Biaxin....
....so maybe it isn't even the real Biaxin XL afterall doing this.
Hmmmm. Well I would still be interested if anyone does find Biaxin XL to be better than Clarithromycin or Clarithromycin ER.
But I'll at least switch to the "ER" version of the generic. Thank you.

I agree. Regular Biaxin makes me feel more 'toxic' and leaves an absolutely terrible taste in my mouth and odor in my nose.
Biaxin ER does not have any bad side effects for me, and herxing was so much easier- not so flu-like and not as bad of a headache.
