THis doesn't happen all the time, but sometimes after I take my rifampin, I get what I describe as a horrible chemical taste in the back of my mouth.

Sometimes it follows a belch, sometimes not.

It's bad, I mean really bad. I have to grab for something strong-tasting to drink to get rid of it.

My husband says it's just acid reflux, and I should go back to taking Prilosec. I don't think it's that simple--I don't get this any other time except right after I take the rifampin--and I'm talking right after, like withiin 3 monutes.

The last time this happened, I got the bad taste, and then about 5 minutes after that, my nose was running, and the mucus was orange.

Is it possible that the capsules can start dissolving that quickly and cause this? I haven't had any other problems with the rifampin.

Sounds like reflux to me..........the capsules can dissolve pretty fast, especially if you have reflux problems and are taking it on an empty stomach.

I have been taking it since the first of March and have to take it with food.......

The orange mucus is normal for some people who take rifampin, and it sounds like in your case since it is following the belch, that is bringing some of it up.

However, rifampin can cause all of your mucus, tears, urine, etc to be orange.

Thanks, Tif.

I knew about the orange bodily fluids--lol, my younger son is fascinated with my "orjange pee."

My hubby has told me to go back on the Prilosec, but my gastro told me not to take it anymore unless the reflux gets really bad; he said I'm on enough meds.

I'll have to ask the LLMD next month.

Maybe try to take a bite or two of food right after taking the pill to help push it down farther. It might not be getting down far enough, so you are tasting it. Sometimes capsules do this. I had this problem when taking the humaworm capsules.

Hope this helps,
