I'm so confused. I am seeing a highy recommended LLMD. But two things he did confused me. I would just like some opinions.
First he put me on Amoxicillin and Doxycycline. I did an interaction checker and this is what it said, doxycycline ⇔ amoxicillin Applies to: doxycycline, amoxicillin
GENERALLY AVOID: Tetracyclines may reduce the effect of penicillins by inhibiting cellular protein synthesis which is necessary for cell wall synthesis inhibition by penicillins. Antagonism is more likely when low doses of either agent are administered. Therapeutic failure may result. MANAGEMENT: This combination should be avoided if possible.
Second, he put my husband on steroids. It's methylprednisone, the pack where you take four one day and three the next... I know steroids are bad for lyme.
I'm about to just give up with everything. Nothing makes me feel better anyways. So tired of lyme or whatever it is.

Have you asked your LLMD why he's putting you on this combo? He may have a reason that makes sense. Doesn't make sense to me though, both go after the same thing.
I would also really, really want to know the reason for steroids!!!

I was given the same pack, 21 pills in total over a 6 day period before I knew I had the lyme. I had large welts from bites, so my doc gave that to me to take away the swelling.
And any good Lyme doc will tell you NO STEROIDS.
Def. ask your doc why he would put him on that.
If he is new to Lyme, I would increase the Doxy to 200mg 2x a day. I herxed pretty good from that. I tested - for co-infections.

Are you having a lot of neurological symptoms? What dosages are you on?
I agree that I would not take the steroids unless I had gotten an adequate explanation of WHY.

I just had cataract surgery and use steriod eye drops (4 drops per day first week, 3 drops per day second week, and so on) and have been ill since the surgery.
My opthomologist said the eye drops shouldn't have caused such a reaction but I've been in bed 2 weeks and not left the house.
I wanted to discontinue it but the opthomologist said my eye was inflamed and it was critical to continue the drops. I can see so much better so will do what the doc says.

Why on earth would a real LLMD put anyone on steroids. That makes zero sense whatsoever.

From what i have heard steriods are a no no period.
As for doxy and amox i was on 4500 mg of doxy and 1500 mg of amox a day when i was firs dx with lyme. I was sick as a dog to say the least. Doxy just didnt settle with me. However i must say with all the meds i took for 8 years tho that was the worst there was a week or two i actually felt better.
