Now Foods D3, 5000IU, olive oil base.
Carlson D3 Drops, 2000IU per drop.

iHerb has several other good brands of D3 too.

I was planning to start a thread on this very subject later today. I too have very low D levels (just found out a few days ago). My alternative doctor says he prefers I get D in the sun and not through supplements.

I did a search here on Lymenet about vitamin D and found there is quite a bit of controversy about taking D for various reasons. I am very confused about this now.

Some people who took the D supplements got pretty sick from it. Herx??? Others say you are feeding the lyme bugs when you take D supplements.

What is one to do? My body needs Vitamin D but I don't think I'm able to get enough sun each day to replenish my very low levels.

I've bought some Carlson Vitamin D3 1000 IU drops (Cholecalciferol) in coconut oil. I'm ready to take it but would like to get some input and opinions from you all before I do it.

Comments?

Gary

I started out at the lowest end of the reference range for my vitamin D levels - 17.

Since starting Lyme treatment and taking Carlson's Cod Liver Oil (I think it's 1000), my Vitamin D level went to 77, which is just above the highest level in the "normal" reference range.

This was before I was even well enough to start going outside during this last summer to get regular mid-day sunlight on my arms and legs.

So early April of this year, my Vitamin D levels were above normal, and all I did differently was take antibiotics and Carlson's for about 10 months.

Wow! Thanks everyone. Now what to choose.

I would assume the above posters haven't had a problem with supplementing?

Like you Gary, I did a search and came up with the controversy also.
I also saw where many M.D.s order a prescription which is in actuality, vitamin D2 not D3. I want to avoid that.

Sun would be nice except we had much more rain than sun this past summer and not much chance of getting much now.
It makes it hard too if your eyes are supersensitive, you're a bug magnet and take meds. that don't allow sun exposure.

My immune system isn't up to par either and from what I understand, a low vitamin D doesn't help. Also important for proper thyroid function and much more.

I plan on supplementing as I feel if my body is depleted, I Need to replenish it.

Have others experienced positive results?
Wondering also how much per day to start?
Start slow or try to raise it quickly?

Willing to try just about anything that will help.

Thanks ALL

Thanks Nenet.
We posted about the same time and you answered one of my questions.

It takes a long time to get the level back up to normal.

I'm glad you were well enough this summer to go outside. I was able to be outside myself this summer. Well, when it wasn't raining. So not so much but better than previous years and grateful.

Thank You
Seems like most are using Carlson's. Will compare what I can find on all.
