Hi,

I've been experiencing a flare-up of fatigue symptoms (with muscle weakness, brain fog, the whole thing) the past 4 days and was wondering if anyone had thoughts on what might be causing it. I'm praying I didn't get bit again over last weekend, when I was walking through some tall grass and leaves. A tick check turned up nothing, but I know the ticks can't always be seen.

All of this is made stranger because for the past few months I've been feeling energy return, which I've attributed to IVIG treatment. Nothing has changed with this treatment. Would a new infection manifest in this way, with just the heightened fatigue (I wouldn't think so, but has anyone else heard of that, or experienced it???) Also - in anticipation of a colonoscopy, I've gone off my fish oil, which has Vitamin D in it, so I've wondered if maybe the loss of Vitamin D would spark renewed fatigue?

Any thoughts are really appreciated!!! Thank you!

Ben

Flare-ups of symptoms are common with lyme disease. They can occur at regular intervals, or for no apparent reason at all.

Generally, once you have lyme disease, if you get bitten again, you will get a bulls eye rash. (My now famous lyme doctor agrees with that statement, also.) So, if you can't find a rash anywhere on your body (have someone check through the hair on your head), you can probably rule out another bite.

I appreciate you sharing your experience, TF. I hadn't heard that about the rash showing up the second time you get it, but come to think of it, the second time I got bit I got a rash. Haven't seen one this time, though, thankfully. I would imagine this wouldn't necessarily apply to Babesia, Bartonella, Cat Scratch Fever, or some of the other nasty bugs ticks can carry?

Lyme is the one that gives the rash. But, it is rare for a tick to only carry a coinfection and not lyme, so that is just not likely to happen.

I know I struggle a lot with this myself - can't tell if it is an exacerbation of sx or something else. Sometimes it *is* something else, often "vague" sx like increased fatigue, wanting to be in bed more, etc.

The culprit? Sinus infections, yeast infections, easily trigger above sx.

In your case could be any of the above, plus an additional dose of lyme (hope not) but it might also improve soon for you so do keep us posted!

Thank you for the thoughts, TF, Lyme ED and btmb03!!! It's good to hear that others experience a flare-up of fatigue due to colds or flu or yeast - good in the sense that it's relieving to think my new flare-up might be due to one of these rather than to a re-infection. It's also relieving to hear that it's rare to get a co-infection without lyme as well. I'm praying I've just got some kind of cold or flu that I'm fighting off. I wish the best for all of you, as well.

Ben

Ben, my now famous lyme doc told me that solar flares can also cause lyme flares. When one occurs, he will get a rash of calls from patients he hasn't heard from in a long time. And, he himself can get a few little symptoms (he got rid of his lyme 9 years ago). He has established this connection, evidently.

So, there are probably many reason why we get lyme flares "for no reason." We just haven't discovered the reasons yet.
