While waiting to see my new Dr. (Dr. H in Ny), my current LLMD talked me into taking DMSA since my mercury and lead levels had previously tested as very elevated. I told him that I was apprehensive because I still had two metal fillings in my mouth and that it might not be a good idea. He felt strongly that this wouldn't be an issue and that taking the DMSA would be safe despite the two smallish metal fillings. He went into a diatribe about how people get these views and that he's had a number of patients take DMSA with fillings and never once had an issue- etc.

So, I began to take it 4 days ago and on Friday had some severe heartburn after eating breakfast and drinking coffee. I took some TUMS and prilosec and that seemed to do the trick. Later that night while driving home and not really having eaten much (yogurt 3 hours prior), I noticed the return of the heartburnish symptoms. They again lasted about 1/2 hour and could not be relieved by TUMs. I felt a tinge in my left arm and had someone drive me to the ER to get checked out. The good news is that my heart and lungs are fine and they chalked this up to a GI issue. My question is: have other experienced bad GI side effects with DMSA? I'm now taking 20 mgs of prilosec daily so hopefully this keeps things at bay. I took my 3rd pill today so we will see.

What other effects should I - will I feel as the DMSA removes metal from my body?

Thanks,

Chris

do not use chelators with fillings still in. Please inform yourself - most doctors are not informed. Read some of my posts.

take care.

I agree with GiGi. Chelators will pull the metals out of the fillings. Read up on it and decide whether or not you think it's a good idea. [Smile]

Interesting this guy advocates DMPS. I am using same DMSA protocol he was using but apparently he had little success with it .He doesnt describe his DMPS protocol though .

i have 10 amalgams and while i plan on having them removed, i did benefit from using chelators with the amalgams IN, so there is no cut and dry rule on the subject.

granted, i know and would suggest that NOT having them is the best way to go, but again, i improved greatly using chelating/binding agents with the fillings.

I hope to make further progress w/o the amalgams and continuing to chelate in the future.
