Hi jennie, It's me again, I just responded to your other post. Yes, anyone taking ABX should consider c.diff. prevention. That's one thing the probiotics help with. All through antibiotic treatment a person should also be taking probiotics.
I gave the probiotic info in the other post to you, but I take Jarrow "Jarro-Dophilus EPS". If you can't find that one, just be sure that you are taking a good probiotic.
Best wishes, Hopeful

Yes, everyone should tale Florastor to prevent c.diff. it is not a pro-biotic, it is a beneficial yeast that crowds out c.diff spores int he colon. Pro-biotics are different, and should be taken also. Make sure you take brands that are tested for potency and not just some store brand. VSL # 3 is one of the best. FLorastor has also been tested and proven effective, compared to store brands.

Primal Defense Ultra has S. Boulardii, but do I also need to supplement with Florastor?

How should I work Florastor into my schedule? I read on an older post not to take it at same time as probiotic and not to take anti-fungals at all. Is this true?
7:00 AM - ABX 11:00 AM - Probiotic 2:00 PM - Multi-vit, milk thistle, fish oil, Niacin, olive leaf extract, magnesium 7:00 PM - ABX 9:30 PM - Probiotic
Thanks, Jen

I take a Florastor every morning along with my antibiotic. (Since it is a beneficial yeast, the antibiotic doesn't hurt it---at least that is my understanding).
I take a probiotic two hours after my last antibiotic dose...which means I take a probiotic about bedtime.
I had C. difficile for 11 months and I sure don't want that back again!
Best, Timaca

I have a question about this - I just noticed yesterday (started taking Primal Defense a week or so ago).
If you look at the 'Supplement Facts' it does not mention S. Boulardi BUT if you read the info on the side of the bottle it says "Primal Defense is created using the following probiotic species or their enzymes" and lists more - including S. Boulardi.
What does this mean? Does it have S. Boulardi or not? Does it have the same benefit?
I also take Florastor.

Primal defense is not recommended, it was found to contain some harmful strains. Will try to find the link/warnings about that.

I would take both a probiotic AND Saccharomyces boulardi. My LLMD has me taking both. I take one pill of my probiotic a day and I take one pill of the S.Boulardi two to three times a day.
This is what my LLMD recommends. I had C Diff before I even started abx so this is what she has me take for prevention.
She has me on Theralac as a probiotic and Klaire Labs brand of the Saccharomyces boulardi.

WildCondor - what do you recommend? I need to switch as I've been taking the NSI brand too long.
I was wondering about the Primal Defense - just reading the bottle was weird and contradictory.

So you can take Florastor with ABX but can't take probiotics with ABX? I am confused. I thought ABX would kill good bacteria. No?

Yeah, I used to take it too until my GI and LLMD both told me to stop it because it can actually make you sick.
I'd take Florastor, and if that causes any bloating, try Florastor kids. For probiotics, VSL # 3, UltraFlora, Theralac or Primadophilus.

I ordered Theralac on iherb and some Jarrow S. Boulardi (i will alternate with the Florastor).
Got two new (toxin free) lipsticks while I was at it!
I have been feeling very sick lately and wonder if it's the Primal Defense? I also started back on Chlorella (after 30 days of being out of it) and new drops from my NP so I'll probably never know what made me sick.
Well, it's into the sauna for me!
Or as my hubby afffectionatly says "Get in your Box!"

Yeah be careful of that Primal defense. When it comes to these probiotics etc., make sure you get a brand that has been tested for potency. Example...the Jarrow brand, if shipped, it might lose potency if it is not kept cold in transit. FLorastor is tested for potency and safe at room temp.
