This is just insane.

I took my first dose this morning.

Felt a little tired during the day (not much at all).

Well I did some detox (warm bath and face and neck massage- lymph swollen)

About 2 hours ago I started herxing. This is one of the worst headaches I've ever felt.

I have extreme heartburn. Feel like throwing up but haven't yet.

I'm just praying that this is indeed a herx and not the medicine causing this.

Someone tell me flagyl works. haha

Half the battle for me is being convinced I'm fighting the right fight.

Flagyl caused severe headaches for me too. I'm pretty sure this is a herx and a good sign! You are getting those buggers!

Hope you feel better!

I started back on my flagyl yesterday morning too, and by last night I already felt it. The headaches are bad, but I pushed through it. You can do it!

I hope you feel better.

I had to start in pinches and work up to 3 a day.

One pinch made me sick, had to hit the bed, but I

have been able to get there and almost done. I

agree it is some good stuff for hitting them. But I

do think it should be pulsed like some are

recommending.

i'm wondering if those severe migraines from flagyl are a herx.

should we just try to muddle through?

i've never had such extreme pain.

How much are you taking?

I am taking 250 mg daily for 12 days so far. I have a little bit of extra stiffness and increased joint pain at night but no clear herx.

I'm supposed to take it for 2 weeks, then 2 weeks off, then try 500 mg for 2 weeks.

This whole thing is so confusing. I would feel like I was actually doing something if I felt a herx.

It has worked for me. I have typed this before. Of all the drugs I have taken/take this is the one that I can point to that I can say for certain has given me my most obvious progress.

With that said, I have had my worst herxes from it. I only take it 2 days a month - 1000 mg a day. When I started this in February, I herxed for two weeks afterwards. Last time, only 6 days. I took it yesterday and today. We shall see how it goes this time.

Let me tell you my emotional herxes from it are beyond belief. It has made me truly suicidal at times. Some people would say it is not worth going through that. They may be right. My fiance keeps begging me not to take it as it is so tough However, the progress that I have seen makes me keep doing it.

It has worked for me.

Kathy.

I hope it works.

Dr Trevor Marshall advises against it BIG TIME.

Says the drug is basically poison. And that the bad reaction we get from it is not a herx but side effects from the drug.

I hope he's wrong. Because this is tough.

By the way, lemon water saved my arse last night. That stuff really works.

venus,

I'm ramping up. Definitely trying to avoid big herxes.

LLMD's all across the country are backing off the mega doses of flagyl.

Take it slow is the new theme. They discussed this in detail at the conference in DC.

DR Marshall doesn't know as much as he thinks he does about Lyme... just my non-medical opinion!

Yes, flagyl can cause terrible depression... so be aware of that, cane!

I don't want to be depressed. hahaha

There's no way to avoid this?

Detoxing immediately when you start herxing?

Lemon water? Epsom salt baths?

Venus,

You only take it 2 days out of the month and you see progress? My doctor might go for that idea. he doesn't like Flagyl. He says 80% of people on long term flagyl get permanent neuropathy.

After I took Flagyl for 2 weeks, I was diagnosed with Sjogren's syndrome. I don't know if the Flagyl had anything to do with it.

Well, it caused TEMPORARY GLOBAL AMNESIA for me!

Luckily, I was sitting down in a building at the time.

I have no idea how long I was "out" before I realized I knew nothing--not who I was, where I was, or what I was doing.

That was the LAST flagyl I ever took.

I had the same thing happen as Cass.
I had a whole day like that and then it took a few days to get back to normal.
Even things that happened on the 2nd day i can not remember.. Weird

I admit I have not taken it since but miss it. Before that episode it was helping me.

Dang it.

As for the dosage, it was many, many years ago, and I don't remember. I'd been taking it for 2-3 days, as I recall, for a different infection than Lyme.

Best,

Hmm every drug is poison to some degree. I haven't read anything particularly bad about flagyl frankly

colt,

I usually just squeeze one entire lemon into 12 ounces water.

When I herx real bad I do 2.

Lemon Water is a great detox and can take some relief off of your liver.

I started milk thistle recently too.

Isn't Flagyl potentially carcinogenic? I think it says that in some of the official information that goes with the drug.

It might not be in some of the scaled-back versions though. Like if you go to drugs.com, you'll see there's a version for pharmacists, a version for patients, a concise version, etc. I'm not sure which exactly it was in.

But before anyone freaks out, a lot of things are either carcinogenic or potentially carcinogenic....the exhaust from your lawnmower, chargrilled meats, etc.

But anyways, if what I said is true, that would be something that sets Flagyl apart from some of the other drugs we're taking.

Okay, I just looked it up. It is a carcinogen in rodents.

Doesn't mean it is with people though....for example, with sodium saccharin, there are theories it is only carcinogenic in rodents because they aren't equipped to handle sodium like we can.

My daughter has been doing flagyl and amoxicillin for close to two weeks now to treat H. Pylori and

lyme. She is doing amazing...but its pretty unsettling reading how bad flagyl is.

She has not had any side effects from it..hmm

I suck down a lemon every day. I just open up the top and sit there and squeeze it right into my mouth. I do drink gulps and gulps of water too while I am doing it.

I was thinking I better start brushing my teeth right afterward?

Tindimax is in essence Flagyl but a little less toxic.

Might be worth looking into for those of you liking flagyl.

I take Flagyl for 1 week each month (for probably 4 months or more). I just completed my first week, and I felt like dog poop. Headaches were pretty much constant, and I was tired all the time. One very interesting thing: I had roaming knee pain that eventually settled in my right knee just before starting Flagyl. It got so bad I had to keep my right leg straight going up or down stairs. After a few doses of Flagyl, the knee pain COMPLETELY DISAPPEARED!!!! Now that I'm off of it for 3 weeks, I've felt tinges of knee pain but so far (it's been a week since I've been off of it), it hasn't completely come back. Talk about RESULTS!

MIGHT help. I heard a dentist on TV this week saying to NEVER suck on a lemon due to the acid.

Nellie.. those are awesome results!

I'm taking 1000 mg of Flagyl a day 3 days a week. The other 4 I take Amox and Zithromax. When I first started Flagyl, I now think I had a bad emotional herx. I felt horrible and was SO down for like 2 days. Very depressed and felt my life was over. At the time I didn't associate it with the new med, but looking back I bet it was a herx.

I've been taking it for about 4 weeks now and am not depressed anymore (well not like I was). Since starting my new regimen I've also been in more pain and having muscle cramps.

SO far Flagyl has been tolerable for me.
