I was wondering what everyones thoughts are on this subject. My current doctor says that a regular dry sauna is fine to detox, and I've had others tell me that Infrareds are so much better. Does anyone here have a preference or feedback for me?
Thanks so much, Sherrie

The infrared ones supposedly have more benefits than a regular dry sauna, like helping the immune system.
Off the top of my head, that's all I got!
But I do really like my infrared sauna. It is one of the portable tent-like ones, where your head is on the outside.

Studies have shown that you eliminate much more in the way of toxins with a FIR than with a regular one. I remember finding all kinds of info before I bought mine by Googling, but that was several years ago, so I don't remember the specific sites.

I do bow down to FIS.
Have used both. Last 3 years FIS only.
Had a stroke in 2001. Probably lyme induced. Before that I could easily sweat. After stroke not at all.
2006 Began FIS. Finally after ONLY 2 FIS sessions I could sweat again. I am IN LOVE with FIS !

I've only used FIR so can't compare the two. I do love my FIR sauna though. It just makes me feel so much better.
I've only been using it for a few weeks but I've had it about 3 years. I have POTS and I couldn't tolerate it when I first got it but the POTS is better now.
I try to use it every day now and I really look forward to it. My skin has also improved so that's a plus.
I was researching the benefits of it this morning and it says it's very good for the heart along with other health benefits. It increases the heart rate so it's like a workout. Another plus.
Just reading all the health benefits is enough to make me want to do it even if it wasn't good for detox.
I remember reading a long time ago someone said that getting a FIR sauna was the best thing they had done for lyme. At the time, I didn't understand why but I do now.

I've had both types and they both helped but the FIR is the best in my opinion.

Thank you so much for the replies. I used an Infrared Sauna today for 30 minutes....within 10 minutes I was almost asleep. My upper body sweat and a little behind my knees but not my legs or anything else. Is that normal? Also after I was done I could have just slept all day..is that normal from using a sauna, or is that fighting the infection?
Thank you for the help, Sherrie

Skin is an organ of detox.
Take the nap ! I used to fall asleep in the lie down Sunlight Saunas Solo.
Probably snored too.
Congrats for taking action + trying it. Do it 2-3X per week if you can for a few weeks + report back ! Please ?

Be sure you are getting enough electrolytes if you are sweating like that (I use ElectroMix which is by the makers of EmergenC).
Also, I take chlorella (use a high quality brand like Prime Chlorella that is free of heavy metals/contaminants) about 30 minutes before getting in my sauna, to help pull out any toxins that the sauna releases.
Not sure if it works, but in my own head it makes sense at least.
You might be tired from POTS/dysautonmia though, so just go slow, and only do what you can handle.

Dear Friends,
Yes, getting enough electrolytes is very, very important!! You'll need POTASSIUM--twice as much as Sodium. Plus, trace minerals also.
I have come to love Electrolyte Stamina by Trace Minerals Research. I've used it now for over 10 years--hiking, backpacking, exercise, etc. It really, really helps with the terrific lethargy you can get when you sweat too much. Plus, with real heat stroke, this handles the situation within minutes.
I've lived in the desert, in Florida, and now Southern California. And, I've done many hours of sauna detox.
Hand me the Electrolyte Stamina! I buy it by the case!!
Best,
Cass A
