Hi, I just started antibiotics for CDC+ Lyme. I took minocycline and in 10 days I worked up to 200mg 2X's per day. I was dizzy, very foggy, with increased anxiety and sadness, so the LLMD said to take a break for a few days. Within hours of stopping the med the symptoms resolved. Maybe side effect of med and/or herx.
Now I am about to start doxy. Does anyone know if dosing up very slowly could be harmful. For example, starting at a very low dose (i.e. 50mg--cut 100mg tab in half) like every other day for several days or take even up to a month or more to get to 200mg 2X's per day.
Does anyone know the effect on Borrelia (and other co-infections) on starting at sub-thereupeutic levels even for several weeks. Could they morph into L forms or other forms to "hide" from the doxy? Could this low-dosing make them more difficult to treat? The LLMD never mentioned going up slowly; so perhaps, it might be harmful. I did get the side effects immediately on 100mg of minocycline, altho they did get worse as the dose went up. Has anyone "dosed up" slowly, and if so, over how long a period and what were the results?
Also, does anyone know if it is harmful to stop antibiotics for a day or so every so often. I have several very important personal things I must do in the next few weeks, and I have to be able to think clearly for them. Will I harm my treatment if I hold the doxy those days?
Thanx in advance for your response.

I would talk to your LLMD. My LLMD didn't want me to ramp up because he wanted to take the bugs by surprise and kill off as many as we could before they could change/hide.
If you don't make a habit of it, I would say it's probably okay to skip a dose here and there. Again, it's always best to talk with your LLMD regarding your meds.
