Neurontin doesn't cut the nerve pain, and I have an allergic reaction to Tramadol. What else is there? I am somewhat deperate.

Of course I meant pain. My PCP is recommending Darvocet. Anybody used that for pain - specifically nerve pain?

There's actually several threads on this very subject. You may want to do a search t see some of the different things people do for pain.
Tramadol doesn't work for me, makes me nausea too. Darvocet is a narcotic pain reliever and generally doesn't work well on nerve pain. I take hydrocodone (Lortab) and while it helps with pain it doesn't help me with nerve pain.
A lot of people with nerve pain take Lyrica for this and many seem to get good results from it. Here's a link for more information and user ratings on this:

I used percodan instead of percocet or vicondin anything that has acetametephen in it causes restless legs syndrom when you stop taking it and it is bad. But if you only neeed pain meds once for no more than 3 or 4 days take vicodin or percocet. But like I said I much preferred endodan,percodan with asprin in it instead of acetametaphen.

I just saw a pain management specialist and now have a prescription for methadone.
I'd been taking Vicodin and gabapentin for months, and it was only dulling the pain a little.
The methadone (still taking gabapentin too) has really helped. Of course, the addictive potential is high, so I'm being very careful. And the pain management doc will be keeping an eye on me.
Anyway, my LLMD recommended this pain management doc. I'm really glad I went. Maybe if your LLMD knows of a Lyme-aware pain doc, that might help.

How much gabapentin were you taking? Did anybody recommend Darvocet (that is what my LLMD and PCP are both recommending.)

My sister-in-law could not function without Methadone. She was in horrible pain (not lyme related) all the time and needed it to function.
Yes, you can function taking Methadone at the right doses.

I have a Lyme friend who has been on methadone for several years - and she functions very well on it.
She even works part-time, doing very detailed, memory intensive work.
That is one for a pain doc, of course - but if it comes to that, it's an option.
I use Cymbalta to help with peripheral neuropathy. Also - darvocet was helpful at one time.

I started on Vicodin, which was something at least for the pain (back when they thought it was Arthritis).
But once I finally found a good pain management Doctor, I was put on Oxycontin and something that starts with a D for breakthrough pain. It made treatment much easier on me. I was on pain meds for atleast a year or 2.
Now, I have to say I have I stopped taking the narcotics (still taking lots of magnesium) and I am experiencing very little pain if I have any pain at all.

I can function fine on methadone. I was surprised to find it less "intoxicating" than Vicodin (at least at the dose I'm taking). Of course, I could function on Vicodin, too.
I think that I'm actually functioning better now, because I'm not dulled by pain.
Obviously, I want to get off the pain meds when appropriate, but for now they are really helping me get through each day.

Good to know. My LLMD has told me to try Elavil: a tricyclic antidepressant that is supposed to be good for neuropathy in combo with the Neurontin. Here's hoping. And thanks to all of you for the responses.

Darvocet isn't much.. at least not for me. I take Norco ( high dose of hydrocodone ) for sciatic nerve pain. Doesn't make it go away, but sometimes I can actually sleep while taking it for the pain.
I also take a tricyclic.

I was on methadone for years..and IV lidocaine and morphine. But my pain doc showed me ways to avoid it and I am much better being off it.
One med she gave me for nerve pain is Desipramine. It works pretty well. She also gave me time released Amrix (muscle relaxer) and time released Tramadol. Time release works better because it is spread over time with fewer side effects.
Do you have one of those wonderful infrared heat lamps? I love mine when I am hurting. I have a few other tricks if you want to PM me.

I'VE TRIED MOST OF THE PAIN AND NERVE MEDS OUT THERE-PERCOCET,LYRICA(UGH-WEIGHT GAIN)TRAMADOL(UPSET STOMACH) AND NOW I'M ON LOW DOSE METHADONE DR. SAID I COULD TAKE 2X10MG.DAILY BUT I FOUND THIS TO BE TOO MUCH SO NOW I TAKE ONE AT ABOUT 10 IN THE A.M. AND IT TAKES ABOUT AN HOUR TO KICK IN AND THEN I HAVE PAIN RELIEF FOR ABOUT 6 HOURS. LATER I TAKE ADVIL IF I NEED IT AND THEN IN THE EVENING I USE XANAX TO RELAX ME. IT DOESN'T TAKE AWAY ALL THE PAIN BUT I'M COPING AS WELL AS CAN BE EXPECTED-SOME DAYS BETTER THAN OTHERS. I wear a fentanyl patch and change ot every 48 hours. I also take oxycodone for break thru pain up to 3 times a day. Its beena pretty good combo for me, but today is a bad day.
I also take cymbalta.
i suggest a pain specialist too.
