I'm so scared and upset. I'm beginning to think I'm going to be one of those patients who can't tolerate treatment! I'm scared to death I won't pull through.

I keep getting more and more advanced Candida...BUT....every single time I stop Levaquin, I plunge into a kidney infection.

My kidneys have already begun to shut down from all the damage. I'm now in too much pain to walk, sit, or even speak. I'm in agony again now and sweating profusely, so back to the Levaguin. Obviously I'd rather keep my kidneys and live with Candida.

Can Candida cause serious problems untreated?
Is there any to avoid Candida during Long Term Abx treatment?

I'm so sick, and so sick of being sick. Thanks for all and any help. Suz [confused]

So sorry you are having such a hard time!

Are you taking plenty of probiotics? That is a must while on antibiotics. Also you can take Diflucan a prescription med that fights yeast. And for sure do not eat sugar.

No sugar, no refined carbs, no white foods, etc.

You can take Nystatin everyday for prevention and Diflucan when things get bad (like now!).

Take a high quality probiotic like VSL#3 or Theralac.

I'm sorry you are suffering so much!! That is horrible!

Thank you so much. I am so frustrated at having to choose crappy probiotics or pay through the nose to have good ones cold-shipped. SO...I read their policies and saw their shipping cost is not too bad! AND...their bottle is a 10 week supply. WOW! This just might work. Thank you so much, Suz

You could try a rife machine for the candida, or homeopathics. I can't speak from experience ; i'm just relaying treatments that other people post about.

You'd have to buy a rife machine, then you zap the candida with low level radio waves at some frequency that you get from a frequency list. Some people do post that it worked for them.

Selma ("Brussels") posted that Sanum homeopathic products cured (or mostly cured) her various fungal infections.

There are anti-fungal supplements to take, too, such as Virgin Coconut OIl, caprylic acid, oregano oil pills, peppermint oil pills, Saccharomyces boulardii pills, balck walnut hull pills, etc.

Instead of sugar, use stevia. No oranges or raisins or sweet fruit.

PS Sorry, i forgot 2 main Candida weapons ----
garlic and Candex.

Eat as much raw garlic as your body can tolerate--- there is a limit!

Take as much Allicin or Allimax in pills as you can afford.

Candex works great; 2 pills, twice a day on empty stomac. It is enzymes that dissolve the Candida.

Low Dose Naltrexone can help improve your immune function, which in at least one case has cured a bad case of Candida. It also helps with Lyme and co-infections.

Rife frequency treatments can kill Spirochete form of Lyme and some report yeast can be knocked down also.

Keep sugar and grain carbs to a minimum. Coconut Oil is antifungal and may help with Lyme also. Oil of Oregano and so on.

LymeLearned,

I had candida/thrush (probably due to LD) for years. I tried many supplements, probiotics, and meds.

The Yeast Connection by Dr. Crook has some pretty good information for treating and preventing candida. The main things I learned from the book are how important diet is and also that Nystatin is very effective for candida and is very safe so you can take it long term while you are on antibiotics.

I take the 500,000 IU tablets of Nystatin. I started out taking 2 tablets four times a day, which knocked out my thrush pretty quickly. I now take 4-6 tablets per day while I am on abx for LD.

I tried most of the expensive probiotics, but I found Digestive Advantage for IBS worked best for me. It's fairly inexpensive, does not have to be refrigerated, and is available at Wal-Mart and Target. I take 2 capsules every evening before going to bed.

You might want to try Cipro for the kidney infection. Also, some LLMDs have found Cipro to be very effective in treating LD, bartonella, and mycoplasmas. You can take it with doxy or amoxicillin. One LLMD starts low (250 mg daily) and then increases to 250 mg twice daily.

I hope this helps.

Anyway you can juice fresh cranberries?? They are extremely low in sugar and could certainly help with kidney problems I've read!

Warning...whenever I juice them I must add some apples and even then the juice is EXTREMELY tart!

Take care,
Ocean

Cranberry pills will help flush the kidneys - it's a mainstay in my medicine cabinet.

And Uristat - the combo usually knocks out any kidney issues if started at the first sign of trouble.

If it were me, I'd treat both at once and not make it either or. Diflucan can be used with abx (but not all). Why not do both? Check with your LLMD

Garlic. Garlic. Garlic.

Take raw garlic for the candida, especially while on the Levaquin.

I was on Lev/Doxy and had some bad Candida symptoms. They clear up fast with 3 cloves of raw garlic as needed. I never had to change my diet. I was losing weight too quickly to cut carbs and sugars.

Garlic is really intense and powerful stuff. Incredible anti-fungal properties throughout the body.

Sorry to hear about your Kidneys though.

PS Also Saccharomyces boulardii helps. It's the anti-yeast yeast, a non-colonizing yeast that i guess displaces the candida.

My local GP MD warns against Cipro. He read in his medical journal that people who have taken Cipro have increased morbidity and mortality.
