Hi all! Haven't been on in awhile. Hope everyone is doing well!
We are going to Florida the day after Christmas. My 14 yr old son is on doxy. I think it's 400mg a day.
Our llmd said to stop it while in Florida. But does anyone know how long it takes to leave your system?
Like should I stop it now since we leave in 2 weeks? Wait a week? Or what do you think?
Thanks! Amy

Seems like it took more than a week for the doxy to leave my system.

I'd say it took at least 10 days or so before I wasn't susceptible to sunburn when I went off for the summer.

Doxy Half life is 18 to 24 hours..
So no need to do it so far ahead if look at this scientifically. I would say 3 days would the max I would think about myself.

Well does he actually get sunburns on doxy? - I took doxy in mid of summer (400 mg) and was fine - but I do not get sunburns usually (I been lifeguard one summer and stayed whole day under sun ,no sunscreen, no nothing -never got sunburns, just crazy tan)

Thanks! Maybe I can wait until a week before.
Coltman, Not sure cause he has only taken it since October. I got really bad sun burn on it though! He hs very fair skin and burns very easy.
He takes 2 antibiotics so we are just going to stop this one until we get home. I may have him go back on his biaxin during this time.

My doxy burn was last year in PA in the winter when it was zero degrees and snowing. Got my hand burned badly during a car ride. Should've taken my sunscreen!

I went to FL a few weeks ago and I am on doxy. I didn't stay in the sun long at a time, wore long sleeves and pants, a big hat and sun screen, etc. I didn't have a problem.
It was chilly so wearing long sleeves and long pants wasn't a problem either.
If you doc recommends getting off then I would go with that.

LLMD just said a few days. I was just worried that wasn't long enough. I thought it took me longer when I got off mine. Had a few bad burns when I was on it.

Amy, I stopped Doxy about five days before going to Disney. I was fine. My doc had mentioned it stays in your system for a number of weeks, but I didn't have a problem.

Hey Amy,
I was wondering how you are doing lately...hadn't seen you around. I have no idea of the answer to your question, but your LLMD should know.

Hi! Yes we are still seeing the LLMD in WI. How about you?
He took me of doxy when I went there in July. I had a severe burn on my arms from driving there.
He said to take him off it while in FL. He is very fair skin and burns easily anyways. Even with sunscreen. So I am definetly doing it. Just not sure how soon I should?
I am good. Haven't been on much. Usually on facebook. Do you go on there?
