What are you taking the Topamax for? Sezuires, migraines?

I am on a low dose of Topamax for chronic visual auras (flashing lights) that are either the result of neruo. lyme or restriced CSF flow from my Chiari Malformation - or possibly both.

It is a magic pill for my auras and I only need a small dose. It does nothing for headache pain as I am not on a high enough dose.

Common, non dose related side effects that I have experienced are pins and needles in feet and hands, loss of appitite, and fatigue. TG

Hi TG....Late Stage Lyme of the CNS/Depression/Severe Pain/Sleep Disorders/Etc....Have been on Gabapentin & Nortriptyline for 5 years and during the past 2 years have put on 30 lbs. My Doctor became concerned with this and attempted to take me off the Gabapentin and Nortriptyline and put me on Tramadol....what a nightmare that was....couldn't sleep/fell deeper into depression/severe pain increased....took me off Tramadol and put me Back on the Gabapentin/Nortriptyline and added Cymbalta....After being on Cymbalta for 6 months it wasn't doing what a designer/highly expensive drug should be doing so he took me off it and put me on Savella and Topiramate.

Hi Queenie Pie: I am taking Gabapentin and nortriptyline as well. I guess it must work pretty well for you: what doses do you take? Does it deal with your nerve pain?
Thanks,
P

Oops - and how do the Savella and Topiramate affect your pain, if at all?

I was on Gaba for some unrelated nerve pain and all it really did was make me sleepy.

Topamax is a anti-sezuire drug also used for migraine but he is using for symptoms related to CNS Lyme/pain?

I too have CSN lyme symptoms and the Topamax does nothing for those symptoms - except the flashing lights.

You want to be careful because Topamax can cause some neuro. symptoms similar to neruo. lyme such as; pins and needles in feet and hands and some facial twitching. Also, it can cause mood disturbances in some people; fatigue leading to depressed mood and some cognitive disturbances; i.e.; more brain fog and word recall issues. Some people call Topamax "Dopamax" and for a very good reason!

What dosage is he starting you on and what it the goal dose?

I am a practicing Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and have never heard of Topamax being given for depression or for pain but maybe in combo with the Savella?

Please keep us updated on how it is working for you - I am curious to hear. TG
