My LLMD has started encouraging patients who are on pain meds to do 4 coffee enemas per day...and to do as much of the Gerson diet as able (LLMD also recommends the less intensive protocol in the book "Detoxing for Women".
I'm very skeptical of the whole Gerson thing, after reading his book and finding no true clinical studies of his success (with cancer) in over 50 years. The book by his daughter responds to the lack of documentation/followup by saying that they lose touch with their patients because they are busy getting on with their lives (after they have been cured of cancer). Give me a break!
Despite that, I have started doing the enemas, some. I've been averaging 2 coffee enemas per day. I must admit, the reduction in pain was IMMEDIATE, and the duration of the effect is lasting longer the more I do it. At first only 15 mins. Now, its half a day.
I have been able to reduce my pain meds by 30%, some days 50%. It also has has dramatic effects on my peripheral neuropathy in my feet. I've cut my Lyrica dose by 75%. This is after 2 months of enemas, with the first month @ 1/day.
So, for once in this epic lyme battle (now 10 years, wife 3 yrs) I can say that SOMETHING is working !
I really want to hear from others who are experimenting with coffee enemas and/or the Gerson therapy or Detox for Women.
What are you experiencing? How long have you been doing it? How much are you doing? (eg #/day, diet, etc)
I am trying to build up the energy and gumption to get up to 3/day regularly. I am still trying to hold down a job, so it's challenging.
Thanks!

It always sounds so tempting. I ask myself why can't the coffee go somewhere else? lol. I can't get myself to do that. It seems so wrong of a use for coffee when my wife drinks it. I'm glad it's helping though.

I am not a dr or expert of any kind but here is my take on Gerson. My oldest daughter has had cervical cancer twice and I made her start doing tons of juices and she got tons of supplements. Also started eating more natural foods.
She also had medical intervention...But is now clear of cancer and has an 8 month old daughter.
Do I think some of Gerson's program worked? Definitely..But anyone getting back to healthy habits may have had a similiar result. I can't say. I think the Makers Diet is also good.
I first heard of Gerson about 25 years ago. A neighbor's mother was visiting. A kind lady that had an exciting life and I would love to just sit and listen to her.
She told me about saving her son, many years earlier when Drs had given up on him. She heard about Gerson, who was alive then and reachable. She took her son and treated him with the protocols and he went into remission and may be still living. I think he had leukemia.
The lady was ederly at the time and has passed. Her family believes strongly in this and when my daughter was first diagnosed, gave me a Gerson book.
I think Gerson was treated in a similiar manner to many of our no longer practicing llmd's. He was considered a quack. He was chased out of the country and I think was in the Caribbean for a time and then in Mexico.
His books and his daughters are available thru Amazon.
I also think that detoxing is very vital to regaining health. The mold ghru told us that our lymie did not detox. She has the dreaded gene or whatever it is called where one doesn't detox. Also that approx 25% of citizens do not detox well.
Good luck.

Coffee enemas were a BIG part of how I got through this horrible disease. I still do them once or twice a week because I know the detox needs to be ongoing.
When I was sick, I made the coffee at night and did the enema right when I got up on the morning (you want to warm the coffee by placing it in a warm sink of water if you leave it out overnight, cold coffee is uncomfortable). It ALWAYS helped.
My 21 year old, non-Lymie daughter does them whenever she gets sick. It stops a cold right in its tracks. For a 21 year old to keep doing them at the first sign of a cold, you know it must have tangible results.

I do them once a month now. But I had done them at least two a day for awhile. Well, I've got to schedule one soon, so bottoms up.

You must use caffeinated, decaf does not have the same effect. I use an organic brand, nothing special otherwise.
Just an enema bag from Walgreens .... found in the feminine hygeine aisle with the douches. Doubles as a hot water bottle, so if you need to ask where they are, you can always ask for a hot water bottle.

How do you wash the thing?
By the way, the neurologist that our LLMD refers us to is very open to new things. He had a patient who he diagnosed with MS. She took two years off work to devote herself to following the Gerson protocol.
He now considers this woman completely cured. He said the spots on her brain are completely gone.
We considered it, but couldn't make that commitment, so we juiced.
Coffee enimas still require courage on our part.

The coffee recipe is 3 heaping teaspoons regular coffee (not decaf) in one quart of water (preferably organic coffee and purified water). Boil for 15 mins, simmer for 15 mins. Replace any water that evaporated.
1 quart per dose. Hold for 15mins. No cream or sugar !
The diet is much more complex. Google Gerson Therapy on Amazon for the book on that.

I can remember sitting in class during my nurses training while the instructor told us about coffee enemas.
Being the class smart a**, I spoke up "With Cream and Sugar?"
The teacher used to me by then just smiled at me and said, "If the Doctor orders it!"
Now I'm seriously considering it.
Does it just aid in detoxing, or is there some other added benefit?

quote:Why should you do a Coffee Enema? Coffee Enemas have been used for over a hundred years as a generalized detoxification procedure. It is a common herbal remedy that has been suggested by holistic and alternative medicine professionals for many years. Coffee enemas stimulate the liver and gallbladder to release stored toxins and wastes and liver function is enhanced.
How does the Coffee enema work? The effects of a coffee enema are different than a saline enema. The most important difference between a saline enema and a coffee enema is the presence of caffeine in the coffee. Caffeine, theophylline and theobromine, combine to stimulate the relaxation of smooth muscles causing dilatation of blood vessels and bile ducts.
There is a direct communication of veins called the enterohepatic circulation. Have you ever felt sick just before having a bowel movement, when stool material has just moved into the rectum for elimination? As soon as the material is evacuated, you no longer feel sick. This is due of the toxic quality of the material and the enterohepatic circulation coming into play. Because of this, it is important to evacuate when you have the urge. The rectum should usually be empty.
This circulatory system enables toxins to be sent directly to the liver for detoxification, rather than circulating them through the rest of the body and all of its vital organs including the brain. This system of veins carries rectal/sigmoid toxins directly to the liver for detoxification.
This means that the coffee is absorbed into the hemorrhoidal vein, then taken up to the liver by the portal vein where it becomes a very strong detoxicant. It causes the liver to produce more bile (which contains processed toxins) and moves bile out toward the small intestine for elimination.
The coffee contains some alkaloids which stimulate the production of glutathione-S-transferase, an enzyme used by the liver to make the detoxification pathways run. It is pivotal in the formation of more glutathione, one of the main conjugation chemicals, enabling toxins to be eliminated via the bile into the small intestine. So in other words, a coffee enema speeds up the detoxification process and minimizes the backlog of yet to be detoxified substances because the enzymes in coffee, known as palmitates, help the liver carry away the toxins in bile acid. With the bile ducts dilated, bile carries toxins away to the gastro-intestinal tract. Simultaneously, peristaltic activity is encouraged because of the flooding of the lower colon. Thus, when the colon is evacuated, the toxins and bile are carried out of the body. This process seems to free up the liver to process more incoming toxic materials that have accumulated in the organs, tissues and bloodstream.
Instructions for a Coffee Enema Make a Coffee Concentrate: (enough for 8 enemas):
Boil 2 litre of purified water
add 340 gr ground organic coffee
simmer for 1/2 hour
cool, then strain
reconstitute to 2 litre
put into 2x1liter glass bottles (ex milk or juice bottles) mark bottles at 250mls with marker!
Prepare the Coffee Enema Formula:
Take 250mls of Coffee Concentrate
add enough warm purified water to make p to one litre
Hang the enema kit on a tap or door know so that the outlet of douche is approx. 40 - 60 cm above your body (lying down).
Make sure the valve tap is closed
Pour the 1 litre Coffee Enema into the douche container
Open the valve tap to clear all air out of the tubing, being careful not to lose coffee, then turn the valve off.
Place a blanket and towel on the floor
Lubricate the tip of catheter
Lie on your right side, insert the tip of the catheter (approx 2-3 inches) with both legs drawn close to the abdomen to allow the fluid to run into the bowel slowly. You can also try lying on your back.
Use the tap to turn off during use (eg. if you get cramping or the feeling that you are full)
The fluid should be retained approx 15 minutes before elimination.
Do this once a day after your normal bowel motion. A enema should not replace your own urge to go to the toilet!
If you have any doubts about the self-healing power of your body, consult your naturopath or health practitioner for advise

I use about the same as six except 3tbsp, but I brew for 15 minutes. I also believe supplementing with vitamin K2 might be a missing ingredient. K2 might be important toward strengthening the gut wall. Kombucha and liver/kidney detoxifying teas in combination might be helpful as well.

When having to warm up or cool down I get it to body temp. I also, years ago started with only 1 TLBS to see how my body would react. Then ramped up 2-3 tlbs seems to work well. This is one of the best tools that gives me relief from pain and helps with the emotions. I still need to do a liver-gall bladder cleanse. Lots of great info peeps are posting.Colonics are also a helper but cannot afford it at the moment.Happy New Year All.

My worst fear is what if something goes wrong with these enemas? How do you go to an ER and tell a doc you did something like this and not get tossed out? Seriously. Water is one thing, but when you say coffee.

LMAO SG. I guess most ER docs probably think we're mental psychotic cases anyways so what's it matter. I've never had an ER doc how one bit of respect when the evil word Lyme was mentioned.
