I have a 3 inch wound on my abdomen. I noticed it when I took a bath. It had a horendous smell, and has pus. I have no idea where it came from or what caused it. IT is really painful and there is redness all around it. I cant post a pic due to its graphicness and location.
I have no idea what the heck to think of this. I am really worried about it. I am calling the doc at 9am, if no appointments I will go to ER.
wish me luck

I wonder if it's staph? I get it several times a year. I use Bactroban ointment on them. I'm a staph carrier.

Yes, I would ask the doc about MRSA. I don't know much about it, but sounds like that would be a possibility.
Good luck - hope you find out soon.

merry-i've been talking to you on general and pmed you but my 4-5 in scar didn't happen for 3-4 days...at first i was using antibiotic type creams etc on a mosguito bite...redness started to spread around it in a circle...a hard ness was forming inside-grew to baseball size---tht is what they cut out
so minewas different but yours sounds worse
also be very careful of spreading any fluids-tissue etc and really any of your fluids...esp nasal
i don't know where you are but you might not want to wait til 6-my doc put me in an ambulance at her offic to take me to hosp-afraid it would burst inside and kill me (srry don't want to scare you-but yours sounds much worse than mine ) and that is what the doc did/said

hi guys. back from the doc. he thinks its a strep infection but he cultured it. HE gave me a IM dose of ROcephin and I go back for another recheck and Rocephin tomorrow. I am also on clindamycin for 10 days. He drew a circle around it and said if it expanded a certain amount to go to ER.
as a side note he suggested I get tested for that new xrmv or whatever virus. he said it is very promising looking, and he thought of me right away.
so thats it for now.
Randi- your so sweet! I dont need anything at this time, but thanks! I Was able to get my rx and some topical ointment for it.
thank you so much for your offer of help!
It is very painful though. argh.

Merry,
Yikes! Hope the antibiotics help and you heal up quickly.
Interesting about the XMRV...Did you get tested? How is he going to treat it if it's positive? Do you know?
Feel better soon! ((((hugs)))))
