Which benzo do you prefer, and why? I have been on the same one for a couple years now, but am having some breakthrough anxiety and my psych. has suggested maybe I need a change.

PM me if you prefer.......

I take klonopin but I try not to due to addictiveness-but I do love it. It helps bring the anxiety down but more so it lets me think clearly. Its different for everyone though depending on chemistry...but thats my choice [Smile]

I'm taking .25mg klonopin at night and it foes seem to help me sleep and keep me more settled. I do feel more aggitated, etc at some times in my lyme cycle where I feel that I need more.

I am being treated for a relapse of the disease. I think because of a huge amount of stress last year, so I needed something to settle my body down.

When I was originally treated in 2001, I was on a low dose of nortryptline and some xanax. After a year of treatment I was off both of these with mo problem.

elley0531 - do you take klonopin on a regular basis? When do you take it?

This is simply a response to your question and my experience. I am not advocating the use of benzodiazapines without educating yourself first.

That said, klonopin has worked wonders for me and in fact has probably saved my life in the past.

For me, klonopin allows me to at least get out of bed and function at a certain level. It tamps down my head pressure, lightheadedness, and numbness and tingling.

At one point in time i had unrelenting 24/7 anxiety and it literally saved my life.

Klonopin is not really a benzo but an anti-epileptic. It must, in my opinion, have some neuro-protective properties as well. I favor it because it lasts longer and rebound anxiety is not experienced as often.

drawbacks: it can take up to 40 minutes to reach effectiveness.

i have taken this drug on and off for many, many years. I have never had a problem going off of it, caution should be used when doing so.

It is the only medication that gives me any symptom relief at all...this includes narcotic drugs, which for me, are useless.

good luck,
Feelfit

I take klonopin whenever I feel like i really have to, like if I am crawling out of my skin with anxiety. I used to take it more during my relapse three years ago, but even at that point I put 48 hours between my .5mg doses. I'm not saying it has to be that way for everyone, but I really don't want to be addicted I am a bit weird about it. I know not everyone does get addicted, but it is a benzo, it just has different properties than Ativan which has different properties than Xanax etc. and they all have different half lives. I have known people who got addicted to it, my ex was one of them, on the other hand I know of people who can go off and on at will with no issues. He was able to get off it but it was a slow process and a long time.

Again though-everyone is different, all drugs will interact with people differently. I try not to get too used to it because it can mask my symptoms so well that I can forget I have a problem which is great when i need to be social, not great in the long run. Right now I'd say i take it 3 times a week and do my best to go without it the rest of the time. It can really work wonders for calming the nervous system down as per a previous poster...so it is a great relief when things are becoming too much and I need a bit of focus. Ok-I am rambling haha.

I have take taken klonopin, ativan, and xanax over the years. There are pro's and con's to each in my case (and others I'm sure).

Like feelfit said, I am not suggesting anyone take them without educating yourself.....nor am I suggesting anyone take anything else for that matter.........

I like Ativan for nighttime because it is longer lasting. Xanax is good for panic attacks because it begins to work very quickly (but is shorter acting).

I've tried Clorezapate and it didn't do much for me. It is supposed to be very long lasting yet it did nothing to relieve my anxiety.

I would do the research and ask your doctor, as well.
