I have just started Mexiletine for chronic pain and I am wondering if anyone has any experience with this. It is a cardiac medication that has been effective with neuropathic pain and is similar to a lidicain in a pill form.
I have been using opiate medication and have tried to stop using it, but along with the Lyme symptoms, the withdrawals have been to much to deal with.
I was using a duragesic patch with percocet for breakthrough pain for a couple years, then switched to suboxone for 1-1/2 years. I stopped the suboxone several weeks ago and was experiencing SEVERE pain to the point I was crying non-stop. I went back to my pain doctor and she put me on ms contin 15mg and also mexiletine.
I'm not sure what type of medication works for the pain associated with Lyme. It seems,in my case, to be very difficult to treat. I'm also on cymbalta and neurontin. I've tried lyrica and savella and they didn't help much.
I would be interested in knowing what is helping other people with pain issues.
Thanks

I have had severe pain. I have tried everything from morphine to oxycontin and everything in between.
The best for the pain I have found are 3 - Vicoprofen (like vicodin-acetaminophen w/ibuprofen instead)
Ibuprofen.
Xanax - yes for pain.
That is it. Like I said nothing works well. I have determined that bacterial pain is much harder to control than post-op pain or injury pain. Getting rid of the bacteria is the best pain reliever of all.
