I have major stomach issues. Usually mid-afternoon I start having reflux symptoms, so bad that it hurts in the back of my neck.
The GI doc found some inflammation in my stomach when I did my endoscopy before I was diagnosed. I am trying to figure out the anti-inflammation diet (for that and other inflammatory issues).
LLMD recommended deghlyzerated licorice, but I can't handle licorice. I HATE IT. I tried, but I couldn't do it. Almond milk seems to help temporarily.
Any other ideas?

One other thing I've done that helps me is putting bricks under the headboard of my bed. I've raised the bed up about 7-8" and that keeps the acid from coming back up into the esophagus.
I'm sure you know that you don't want to take abx near bed time. Important to wait at least two hours after taking abx before lying down or it will burn your esophagus.

Two hours?! I have been waiting a half an hour per the doxy info, but I probably should leave more time. I am having a hard time with the no dairy within 2 hour limitation, so have been pushing back my meds to compensate.
This whole thing just sucks. I know you all know that, but no one else seems to get it.

This is EXACTLY what came pouring out of me after doing months of antiparasitics and salt/c.
Type Lyme and parasites into the search bar here for more info.

If your stomach wasn't so messed up maybe the half hour recommendation would be fine, but with your gut being the way it is it's best to wait longer to be on the safe side.
I'm very sensitive to abx and had to be very careful about when to lay down after taking abx.
Yeah, I hated it that I couldn't have dairy for two hours after or before doxy too, but that's what we gotta do if we want the abx to do it's job effectively.
I'm no longer on abx, but I know what you're going through and fully sympathize with you. You are right, it sucks big time, just like this disease.

I take Doxy and I defintely do not lay down for at least 2 hours after taking it.
Seems 30 minutes after taking it would be the worst time to lay down. Just about dissolved by then and ready to come right up in the esophagus.
Doxy can cause severe damage to the esophagus so that is why I am careful to wait at least 2 hours.
I also take Prilosec. I take it in the middle of the night, because I wake up from insomnia anyway, and doc said take it on an empty stomach. Do not take Prilosec close to taking Doxy.
And yes, you are right.....it sucks! But you gotta do what ya gotta do!

I had these issues before I started treatment as well.
Treatment and diet helped the most.
Glutamine migh be helpful.
Glutagenix?

My llmd said the licorice comes in a capsule form too, I haven't tried to find it yet as I am on a ppi for GI issues. I tried the chewable licorice and I agree - it is AWFUL. Maybe you can find the capsules and they would be more palatable.
Are you on any kind of prescription acid blocker? I have always had reflux issues but found they have gotten considerably worse on abx. The ppi keeps things calmed down enough to where I'm not in total misery.
Just a thought.

I will talk to them Tuesday about a PPI. I have been on Prilosec, Nexium, Prevacid... you name it. The PPIs didn't seem to help, but it's bad enough now that maybe it would. Thank you all for the suggestions.

I have used the PPI's for years. Nexium was the best. But I found out it depletes vitamin D and can cause bone loss, so I dipped out. It seemed to stop working before I quit anyway.

I had terrible GI problems while on doxy. Somebody on this forum suggested New Chapter Supercritical Omega 7 Capsules. In 3 days my pain went away. I still take it 2/day after abx (I am on biaxin now). It is $25 for 30 pills in Vitamin Shoppe and twice cheaper on Amazon. Good luck

Since I found out I am lactose intolerant (and love Dairy!) I learned that milk products are very hard to digest, and not that good for you either. You can get calcium and protein from other, healthier sources. Check any vegan cookbook or pm me.
I still have GI problems but if I eat a mostly vegan diet with occasional lean meat or fish, I feel much better - unless I eat too much! I eat a lot less than I used to, at least at one sitting. Probenzyme (digestive enzyme) seems to help also.
Definitely wait 2 hrs at least, or better 3, before lying down.
I like Gary's tea combo. Great idea! Thanks, Gary.

Also, as hard as it is, you have to get off sugar if you have yeast, which you list as one of your problems.
Yeast causes major GI problems. You will never get rid of yeast while on abx if you don't cut WAY back on sugar. Steevia is an excellent replacement; there are others too. The Yeast Connection is a good book to use as a guide.
