I am currently taking Mepron, Zith & Flagyl. I have taken Zith & Flagyl in the past, no problems. My hair loss started a few days after the Mepron.

I have searched this site using the key words 'hair loss' and what comes up is thyroid & heavy metal/detox as other possible causes.

I am currently taking armour thyroid & I am due for some new blood work in the next few weeks. I am also having my urine tested next week for heavy metals.

With that being said, I do really think that the Mepron has set something off or is a big contributing factor.

Any input would be helpful, thanks!

Hi,

My hair fell out while on Mepron, grew back in when I stopped Mepron.

Happened more than once, since I relapsed several times.

To be fair - I am not sure if it was the Mepron itself, or the fact that my babs symptoms were through the roof.

So - was it babs? Was it the Mepron? I don't know.

I also have thyroid and adrenal issues - and they probably play into the hair loss.

...This probably wasn't terribly helpful, was it? [Smile]

Oh... I also acquired my first silver hairs while on Mepron, and have heard of others whose hair turned white! I am young for silver hair - so that was not particularly fun. But... it's worth the trade off to feel well.

Yes... I'm on Malarone, Zith, and Flagyl right now...

And omg my hair started falling out big time. Started coming out on day 3 or 4 really bad.

It's frustrating because I was already losing a little bit of hair... but nothing like what the Malarone is doing to me.

Might be time for the Cowden Protocol for meeeee.
don't know if i can take much more hair falling out.

Thank you both for your response.

Cactus -- thanks for the heads up about it growing back after stopping Mepron, I had a feeling that would happen. That is crazy about the grey hair. I started to go grey at 28, which is around the time I think I got lyme & co-infections.

Canefan17 -- yes about day 3 after the Mepron my hair was coming out like never before. It was scary at first, actually it still is!

I can take being couch bound, gaining 30lbs, but this hair loss is the final straw for me! It would be different if I had Cancer, but nobody thinks of me as sick. So now I am fat & bald - sexy!

I am seriously considering Salt/C.

asummers,

Were you losing any before the mepron too?

I was... but NOTHING like once I started malarone.

And I'm with you... I'm finally starting to feel better and be perceived as healthy... and now I'm losing more hair.

I plan on switching to Cowden protocol after this months round of Malarone + Zith.

Might be a bad decision... but whatever... I'm seriously NOT happy with my hair falling out in clumps.

Time to reverse that crap.

Canefan17 -- yes I was losing hair before this, but this is WAY more! You should see the shower drain, crazy. There is actually a thin coating of hair on our carpets when I vacum.

When I stand in front of the mirror, and if I tilt my head forward, I can see the front of my scalp thruugh my thining hair.

Ahhh, and of course I noticed the hair loss on the same day I found out I lost 5lbs in two weeks. (I have finally gotten really strict with my diet)

So as with Lyme, it is always one step forward, one or two steps back. This disease doesn't let you get confident, that's for sure.

I am interested in Cowden as well. I have only been on Mepron for 2 weeks. And I have decided to stick it out, or until the hair loss gets too much.

The good news is, we just moved to AUS and we don't know anyone and being sick I have no social life. So I can take the hair loss...for now.

Yes! That happened here, too. Isn't it disturbing?

It will grow back - although I have to say that the growing back experience has it's drawbacks, too - the little baby hairs can create a bit of a halo effect.

But a halo of re-growing hair is better than the alternative. [Smile]

Canfan17 -- Everything that you mentioned in your list, I plan to address with my new LLND (Who I really like). My prior LLMD got me to 80% but I hit a plateau. I think it is b/c I didn't really address the things that you mentioned.

Cactus -- I had to lol b/c I just got back from obsessing over my thining hair line in the mirror when I read your last post. And I JUST noticed that I already have the little baby hairs that you mentioned. How ironic.

I am going to go shopping for some wide headbands. Good thing they are in fashion.

In my case, my hair started falling out and gradually getting worse when my white blood counts got low and lower and dangerously low (and messed up all the other blood counts along the way too.)

My doc was sure it was zithromax and took me off it (but not the other antibiotic I was on) to confirm zithromax as the culprit, and WBC stabilized. Hair loss subsided as blood count stabilized. Then he proceeded my cautiously using pulsing several different antibiotics.

Interesting Sue -- I never thought of Zith being the culprit. I have been on it in the past with no problems. Maybe a combination of Zith & Mepron is the problem.

I am due for my monthly lab work, so I will be sure to check out my WBC count.

Thanks
