I have taken abx for 7 months. Now, I am beginning treatment for bart with Rifampin and Ceftin.

I have never been given a cyst buster. When should I ask for one? Should I be taking any supplements that work as cyst busters?

People say GSE, Grapefruit Seed Extract, is a cyst buster. They say the dose is 15 drops, 3 times a day for lyme cysts.

I've been taking it for 2 or 3 years in tomato juice.

There is also the tablet form, in 125 mg.

I would take flagyl for a cyst buster, but wait until you are done with your rifampin.

I tried flagyl with my (doxy and rifampin) and the three of these were way too much for me.

I am pretty sure I once (not that long ago) had the same question. My LLMD has not put me on a cyst buster, and I asked her about it last week again, and she said she really doesn't feel that they are effective or necessary.

Obviously, many LLMDs believe otherwise - but I am going with her insight and taking her advice on supplements, etc.

It's possible your LLMD is reserving that for down the road in treatment. It took 6 months for my LLMD to prescribe Flagyl and wanted to see if some of the "lighter" abx would do it, but it didnt.

Seems if you are treating your Bart, you should ask your LLMD if you will return to Lyme treatment with the addition of cyst buster.

I take one 125 mg tablet of Grapefruit Seed Extract every morning as well. 7 mos and going strong.

Most LLMD's will base it off how you're coming along.

I was coming along so well (4 months into treatment) that he knew we sent a lot onto cyst form. I think I started flagyl in month 3 or 4.

Just my humble opinion...You can't get well without a cyst buster. Flagyl or tindamax are the most effective.

After rifampin, how long should I then take flagyl?

LLMD seemed to think after treating bart, I may be finished. I just don't want to leave any stone unturned.

I would think he would proceed with how you feel.

Symptom wise, it is a good idea to write down any

and everything you notice while taking the

different drugs. Like me right now on B and C. It

is working on my spine rash. I hope. Now I know

if it is toxo causing it I will need a

stronger cyst buster.

Jennie,

I pulsed flagyl for 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off and did this 3 or 4 cycles. My LLMD said that when you are symptom free, or when you can't tell a difference from when you are on and off flagyl, that wraps you up.

I might take it again though when I'm finished with rifampin.

Absolutely agree! Be careful though; might not want to start with a full dose, could knock you on your butt.

Is 500 mg flagyl dosage 1x in evening enough? When I first started flagyl I was very loopy/fuzzy- did not like how i felt, so I decreased to 1x in evening.. The script says [2] 500 mg 2 x daily. Should I increase & 1x daily or 2x daily. best way too Pulse flagyl & what about doxy pulse?? I just got my test results from MDL in NJ- neg for ehrlichia, bart, & babesia

Hi jpsmom - The idea of taking 1000mg flagyl a day scares the hell out of me, but I was filled with cysts and the drug really hurt me at just 500mg, three days a week...

I guess if you're no longer loopy on 500mg at night, you could start building up by cutting one of the 500 tabs in half and taking 250 during the day and the 500 at night. If you do okay during the day, after a week or so, then you might try the full daily dose.

Keep in mind that you're talking to a true chicken when it comes to Flagyl. I would always titer up the dose, knowing what I know now.

My doctor recently prescribed 500mg three times per day of Tindimax for this.
