I haven't posted on Lymenet in a while, have considered myself in "remission" for almost a year now with very limited symptoms such as occasional joint pains.
BUT today I had the weirdest, most unsettling thing happen to me and am freaking out about it. I was walking home from work and as I was walking, a couple of small electric jolts (it felt like being electrocuted, except on the INSIDE on my leg) went through it. Then a big one came and I almost fell over. It continued all the way home and is still, to some extent, happening now.
Does anyone know if this is a Lyme thing? I haven't been on meds in a long time, or even seen a doctor since my symptoms abated so I don't even know which kind of doctor I should see for this? A neurologist? A rheumatologist? I'm not sure I have the money to afford a LLMD visit right now....
Can anyone help? Has it happened to anyone else?
Thanks,
Jen

Yes, I take a methylcobalamin vitamin b12, fish oil, and 3,000 units of Vit D daily.
Shoot! I have never ever had a nerve symptom before. I keep thinking about MS, that this is the symptom that people with MS start with. Freaking out in general. Should I go back to a doctor? Will that do anything?

The sensation of experiencing an electric shock?: Absolutely! As I've told many a doctor during the course of my problems since 1999, within a few days after starting on antibiotics, I experienced a big "electric shock" that affected my whole system.
It was a shock so strong that I felt like I was riveted to the floor. (I had experienced an electric shock when I was a child of six when I held the neck of a plugged in lamp near the bulb in my (maybe damp?) hand, so I know what a true shock is).
When this happened in 1999, I felt my head "drain" of fluids, my sinuses clear, my ears unclog; it was like my body was draining fluids out of it, almost as if they were being actively pumped out.
I ended up passing an incredible amount of urine, then defecating out an inordinate amount of digestive debris.
The preceding six weeks I had rapidly gained about 17 lbs. after being vaccinated. Immediately after this "shock event" I lost at least five of those pounds, and during the next two weeks I lost a total of 15 of those 17 lbs. I had previously gained, (with no change in diet).
I'd venture to say that maybe I created a lot of "die off" with such a strong shock. It's amazing that initially I felt much better after all that junk literally cleared out of my system.
Within a day or two after this event, my skin broke out in a very noticeable rash on 1/2 of my face, and in most places where I had ever before in my life had any boils or bad skin infections. I also developed a fever. My doctor thought I should stop the doxycycline, as he conjectured that I must be allergic to it.
After I switched to amoxicillin, I felt the gradual resumption of the feeling of having stopped up ears and sinuses and the eventual resumption of head "fogginess" and stomach bloat.
I must admit, though, that right after that incredible big shock and its manifestations, I was reminded of how good I used to feel years earlier. Later I realized that that strange event had probably resulted in a major detoxification of my body.
It's interesting that I also experienced a lot of smaller electric shocks that first year, particularly, after getting so sick. In fact I even blew out a lamp that is one of those kind that can be turned on simply by just touching the base (instead of having to turn it on at a switch). A big arc of electricity passed between me and the lamp when I reached toward it, and I ruined the lamp, if you can imagine.
(Sideline: Because I liked the ease of how nicely the lamp works as a bedside lamp, I bought two more years later, and I've never had any other problem with them, like I did that first year or two when I first was sick, and when I was experiencing those strange electrical problems).
Note that, too, my heart and blood pressure was affected electrically. During that period my blood pressure would jump all over the place, very erratically, such as from very high to very low and/or vice versa, and sometimes the changes would be so abrupt that I often couldn't even capture a reading on a blood pressure monitor.
These days I no longer have "those" kinds of scary problems though I live with constant atrial fibrillation for which I take Toprol XL and coumadin.
It all started with the Lyme vaccine...

Consider the possibility of parasites/worms. They play a huge role in Lyme disease.
I think this is one reason people relapse if they think they are in remission.

VERY familiar (unfortunately) - this was one of my first sx - I call them 'bee sting' pains..and they happen absolutely anywhere on my body..also 'electrical current' pains.
Potentially many 'causes'..if it gives you peace of mind then not a bad idea to get other illnesses ruled out.
I think you'll have a lot of company on this thread!

I have this symptom coming back in the last couple of weeks. I thought it was behind me.
I was thinking it must be neuro lyme, but my LLMD said he felt that along with other symptoms were all bart, so I'm back on that treatment for the FIFTH time.
At the time I was going through the roof with the jolts and half out of my mind, I had talked to someone else that I knew had gone through it.
She told me to make sure my electrolytes were not low and to drink one of those drinks that you mix that has all the vitamins etc in with it too.
I haven't had any today, so hoping that phase is taking a LONG LONG break, but my heart goes out to you since those electrical shocks are BRUTAL.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I'm going to see my the holistic doc who first dx-ed my with Lyme and see what she says about testing for other diseases, etc. Will let you know.
So glad I to be able to bounce things off of people here - it takes the edge off the crazy! Thanks again.

Oh yeah the old I feel like a lightbulb period. I used to tell my doc there was enough electric current in me to run a factory.
Those jolts ran all over my body. They where real scarey at first. I can remember every night when I went to bed, the light show, pistoling firing, electric spark show would start.
During several months I would also experience them only on one side of my body from head to toe. Not fun.
