Just noticed that when shampoo-ing and brushing hair, that I'm loosing hair....not clumps, just strans, but enough to make me nervous. I just started Mepron 3 dys ago, don't think that's it, been taking zithromax for past 6 months, and just increased to 500mg 1x day 3 weeks ago. does anyone have this happening as well?? I did not gain weight, I had tons of GI problems so was not absorbing food. Also, I think babs caused weight loss.
I take natural thyroid, right now I'm having it compounded. I took Synthroid and Cytomel for a while, but switched over to the natural stuff when I got a new, local PCP.
Mepron did not cause any hair problems for me. I think it was more the malnourishment from the GI problems. It went away when I was on abx. Took quite some time for my hair to grow in healthy .... it was like starting over. I just kept it the same length for a couple years and kept whacking off the bad stuff. Now I've let it grow long .... because I can.

I TRUELY beleive it's the zith...because I've been taking the zith for 6 month's now and just started MEPRON a few days ago. I noticed when washing hair and brushing the last 3-4 weeks. It's seem to slow down ...the last few days, but then again, I've not washed my hair everyday because I don't want to see it come out in strans. I did google "Zith and hair loss", and you'd be surprise that people have had this effect with only taking the z-pak for a few days, but yet hair loss a few weeks later..... go figure!!

I lost about 75% of my hair over 2.5 years. I thought I was going to be bald. I really am serious. I went on thyroid meds and It stopped falling out. I went to my hairdresser the other day and she was in awe at how much hair I had. She even had to thin it out! It will grow back!

merrygrl,
What meds did you go on?
And what eventually made you go on thyroid meds? (your LLMD?)

Same story as Merry and Six- hair was falling out, I had a low thyroid function problem as a result of Lyme, and the hair loss stopped after enough treatment for Lyme (I was on natural thyroid for a few months but that wasn't really when the hair loss stopped). It actually got better WHILE I was on Mepron. I was quite pleased to get a short 'buzzed' haircut recently where thin hair would have been very obvious, and find that there was no obvious thin spot anymore.
I'm guessing that maybe sometimes a herx could cause worse thyroid issues, depending on what your thyroid issue is? Maybe that explains some of the hair loss people have when treating aggressively?

Maria,
My belief is that the herxs overwhelm our ardenals/thyroid.
Which is why a lot of people see their body temps drop low when they are detoxing/herxing.
So in th case of Lyme... this seems to be why many LLMD's and lyme patients turn to synthetic hormones.

Actually a lot of people also see temperatures rise when herxing.

LOL, I do wish merry would answer that question!
I decided to drudge up this thread cause I've had a problem with slow hair loss for a while now, and I'm hoping it's more Lyme related.
With me, I have a scalp that feels slightly raw. And, I've lost a little more hair on the left side of my head. And coincidentally, I sleep with left side of my head on the pillow a lot. So maybe, it's an issue with Lyme, scalp and circulation?
Maybe I should look into this thyroid thing. Oddly, the only abnormal that came up on my test was my calcium was a little high -- 10.6. Which, I've heard is a potential marker for a thyroid problem.
