Saw my new LYme doc on Monday, Dr. M in San Fran. Because I has such a nasty, horrid reaction to the antibiotics last fall, we're keeping me on herbals for awhile, and trying to get malabsorption issues, vitamin deficiencies, etc., under control first.

I'm working on getting up to a good dose of Samento. I'm at 3 drops 2x/day right now and I think it's making me herx - I feel ok in the morning before I take it, but then a few hours later I feel like crap - headache, sore throat, dizzy, etc. Does this make sense? I had no problems with 1 or two drops a day, twice.

And I wonder if it's why I keep waking up at night - every couple of hours or so. I go back to sleep, but it's disruptive. It's only the last couple of nights when I did the 3 drops.

I'm starting low-dose naltrexone this week, too, to try and help with all the neuro problems.

I didn't have any problems on samento but the tinctures effect everyone differently. I herxed alot on cumanda & quina. It took me over a month to work up to the full dose on cumanda.

You can herx on one drop...I had to gradually increase my dose, after over a year still can take only 5 gtts 3xday, doc wants 10 3xday...everytime I try 6 symptoms increase...I also take breaks from it as toxins tend to build up then restart it slowly again

Denise-

I have had a similar experience with abx as well as an herbal protocol- Crashing/not herxing.........and took months to recover. I will PM you/would like to compare notes. I do not have dx'd of MS (yet-MRI clear 2 years ago) but have optic neuritis and man MS symptoms which explode/new ones develop with treatment/crash's..........

I herxed horribly on samento - very small doses. It took me months to recover. I didn't know at the time that I needed a biotoxin binder to move the toxins out of my system. I'm told that anyone killing pathogens will need a metal binder as well because killing the bugs releases heavy metals.

I took LDN for a number of months and it caused severe insomnia. I finally had to go off because it just did not get better. It took me months to get back to a normal sleep cycle. It did help bring my immune system back up from a really depressed state.

f13girl - how do you know you were crashing and not herxing? In my experience, it's hard to tell the difference between a crash and a herx since they produce the same symptoms. A Townsend letter article states that the symptoms of the illness are caused by toxins created by the die off (natural die off or otherwise). If that's true, a herx and a crash would be caused by the same thing.

Terry

From reports here over the years, I would agree.

Thank you all! I'll be curious to see how it reacts when I start the LDN. I REALLY want some of this neuro stuff to calm down.

Terry - I'll look into a biotoxin binder - my LLMD didn't mention anything about it, but she did say my detox pathways are OK(I think).

F13girl - I'll pm you back.

One drop made me herx horribly. When I stopped I was fine, no perm effects at all.

One drop made me herx very badly as well. I tried it in the beginning of my treatment. Now 8 months later and being on LDN for six months, I can take up to five drops at a time.

The LDN gave me insomnia for a couple of weeks then helped me to sleep. I believe it has really helped my immune system and to keep candida at bay.

My neuro symptoms are better too but it could be a combination of abx, supplements and LDN and vitamin b shots. But considering I've had lyme and bart for over 25 years, its good progress.

I also did Welchol to get rid of neurotoxins for a few days too.

LDN can certainly cause the disrupted sleep you are talking about. Some people recommend that you back down on the dose until you get used to it.

Currently taking samento up to 15 drops twice a day without any problems so far. However, I have been treating with antibiotics for quite a while. Sometimes I think that the antibiotics lessen the bacterial load.

Blessings,

Katrina

steelbone - What made you decide to try venus fly trap?

I was reading about it. I thought it was used more for cancer? How does it help with Lyme & co's?
