I found this... Has anyone had this test said to be able to actually detect active lyme VS. WB testing which just shows ab's???

That link says this: "the test includes 3 additional antigens derived from B.burgdorferi sensu stricto (a recombinant outer surface protein OspC, a recombinant p41-internal fragment, and a full antigen lysate)."

I forgot which band on the Western Blot tests for OspC...it's either band 23 or band 39. But the WB is testing for the antibody to the OspC antigen. This MELISA is testing for the thing that causes the antibody to appear. (just explaining it for anyone confused)

This does seem like it would be more accurate than a regular ELISA.

But it seems to me that it could produce more negatives than a Western Blot. Because I'd think the antigens would be harder to find than the antibodies (which is what a WB tests).

That is just all my speculation.

But it seems like if you got a positive on this, it could make you feel better that your Lyme is still active (as opposed to the claim that the infection is gone but your body is still producing the antibodies)

But anyways....nope, never heard of this.

Most people will only test positive for antibodies or on an antigen test -- but not both.

Hubby never has any bands show on antibody tests except for band 41 once -- all other bands totally negative on many tests from many labs.

But he did have 2 positive recombinant antigen tests from MDL -- they quit doing that test 4 or 5 years ago.

He also had some antigens show on the Immunosciences serology of Lyme test -- another test that I don't think is available any more. Immunosciences Lab closed and sold the test to Neurosciences but they quit doing this test 1 or 2 years ago. I really wanted to have this test repeated as it also showed antigens or maybe it was antibodies (not sure) for ehrlichia -- only test showed that that might be one of hubby's issues.

Someone very knowledgeable about testing told me once that they felt most people would not get well until they seroconverted and tested positive on an antibody test -- guess that means hubby still has a long way to go.

Unexpected -- If I remember correctly the test you mentioned is only available in Germany I think -- Scott F may have had that test done a couple of years ago.

Your husband Bea didn't even have positive bands on Igenex? Wow!

I did have a positive IgG WB from IgeneX... 5 bands + and 2 IND's.. NOTHING on the IgM... but this just shows AB's.. NOT active disease or even if I HAVE Lyme.. they are AB's... I also have AB;s to EBV but that doesn't mean I HAVE EBV...

I always test - for co's... and CANNOT afford the igenex testing. I am 27 and on SSDI now.. and I can barely afford to see a doctor.

I have been going back and forth for so long if I REALLY have lyme.. I have been sick 3 years and am still a prisoner of my home and body. I have been to top LLMD's, abx only lasted 6 mos for VARIOUS reasons. I am very complex and it seems when you are, they really don;t know what to do with you...

I have now been on herbals for over a year and am not much better... I am looking into many other options now.

If the IgM on the WB is positive it indicates active Lyme.

I haven't heard of that test, sounds interesting.

But if the IgM on the WB is positive it indicates active Lyme. (Igenex is most accurate).

But a positive IgG with symptoms can also mean active lyme.

Symptoms and no positive tests can mean active lyme..so it really should be clinically diagnosed anyway by a good LLMd.
