I have a appt with my GP tomorrow to finalize arrangements for receiving my IV Rocephin. The dr I saw in Germany says I need it. My GP will be precribing me and I guess doing the infusions. I'm having a PICC line put in. From what I've read IV Rocephin is very good at treating neuro lyme and late stage lyme. Is this true? I'm curious how much it has or has not helped others? I'm a bit nervous to start it, but also excited if it will make me better.

I was on Rocephin for 6 months and developed gallstones even while being on Actigall..had to have it removed. It did put me into remission but when I had to stop it all my symptoms came back.
I did go on it again 9 months later and it didn't do a thing for me.

Usually it provides short term relief followed by relapse upon discontinuation of the drug.
If you do go on IV rocephin, perhaps rotate other IV abx w/ it after no longer than 2 months, than follow it w/ multi class oral abx combos.
The key is to keep hitting it hard while you can to keep the symptoms down once the IV has done it's job.
Also be sure to focus on detox, and metals.

kareamber, how long will your insurance company pay for rocephin? Mine would only pay for 6 weeks.
Not worth the trouble for me and certainly not worth it for what my insurance had to pay.
Got one good day for 6 weeks IV. After that I crashed and burned big time.

Pam, I'm not really sure how long I can take it. My ID dr wants me to do a month, but he's not the one that will be prescribing or doing it. I get all my meds from the military clinic and its all free. I've never had any problems with it. I've been taking high dose abx since July and no one has said anything yet. So the IV made you worse?

I've been on rocephin since Aug 27th. One month I took 2 gr 2x a day and 3 off along with other orals(thought I was going to die). I had 1 month break then just do 2 gr a day.
I take actigall 2x a day and have had no gall bladder issues. Have seen a little improvement, more than on with orals.

6 weeks of rocephin made me worse. I'll never know if it would of been beneficial to me if I did 6 mths.
But after years of reading other people stories on rocephin about crashing when it is stopped, doesn't cause me to believe in it.
I had been on orals and combos of orals for 2+ years before we tried rocephin. All rocephin gave me was a highly positive lyme anti-body test two weeks after I stopped IV.
