I talked to one of my MD's today about my possible/probable lyme infection. I like this doc because he's into both mainstream AND alternative medicine.
Actually, he's been treating himself for prostate cancer for a couple of years now w/out chemo or radiation. One drug that he's using for his cancer treatment is Low dose Naltrexone.
I'm pretty sure that he's not the most lyme literate doc around, but he thinks that this might help me, as the LDN is a major booster of the immune system.
Anyone have any experience with this stuff, and if so, what do you think??
Also, here's a link to a book about lyme that includes a chapter about LDN.

yep, do a search here- there are a lot of mixed results with it on Lymenet. I 've used it with success for keeping my candida symptoms down, so I think it's helped my immune system despite Lyme. It might make herxes feel worse.
There are definitely initial side effects of insomnia. I just re-started it after not being on it for about 6 months- and yeah, the insomnia was very unpleasant. I'm dealing with it by taking it during the day instead. After a few weeks, I might switch to taking it at night. The last time I did it, I used 3 mg doses and took them at night. It took about 2 weeks or 10 days for the insomnia to go away. This time I asked the LLMD for a lower dose- 1.5 mg, and I'm going to ramp up later if I think it's helpful.

My mainstream LLMD just prescribed Low Dose Naltrexone for me. She said, Dr. H. in NY, has had great results with both LDN and Pekana Homeopathy(detox). I should have questioned her more; I don't think they are used together, just two adjunct protocols that were found effective.
I haven't yet filled the prescription for LDN, but have heard it used more and more, especially for rheumatoid arthritis and autoimmune conditions.

hey, the place that Lymenet found for me that's cheapest for LDN was Gideon Drugs in NYC: 212 575 6868
it was about $15/month plus $7 for shipping of any number of bottles.

oh, Ticked- Singleton's book is REALLY good. It has helped me a lot in understanding the types of immune changes that we deal with and ways of tackling inflammation and other Lyme issues.

I'm planning on putting together a Lymenet 'LDN links thread' sort of like the herbal links thread in my signature below. Please keep us informed on what it does for you and what your experiences are, positive or negative.
