I just recently re-started Biaxin (yes, it's a US-made version, not the Indian pharmaceuticals I also take).
I'm finding it interesting that I odn't have the 'metallic taste' this time. I think that last time I was on it- for almost a year, ending this July- I also didn't really have a problem with 'the bad taste' other than at the very beginning. I'd taken it in the distant past for stomach ulcer and the flavor was really awful.
I recently realized that I haven't really read of anyone complaining about the 'bad taste' in a while on Lymenet- is that because they changed the formula? Do people still get the 'copper pennies in the mouth' phantom flavor after taking the pill?
I know I"ve heard people say in the past that the flavor may be less common with the brand name versus generic version, and I've taken both.

Hey, those who don't get a bad taste- are you on another antibiotic with it? I'm just wondering if something like the Rifampin I'm taking is speeding up the processing of Biaxin? I think the 'bad taste' is supposedly not a well understood effect- I saw it mentioned in a book about the sense of smell, and they described it as a mystery.
There's an interaction between Rifampin and Biaxin that changes the levels of both- down-grading the amount of Rifampin. For details type the two drugs into http://www.drugs.com/drug_interactions.php#
I think I've used Biaxin in the past with other drugs, and didn't have 'the bad taste'.
Also incidentally, someone once posted that their LLMD had them take the Rifampin and Biaxin at different times so as to minimize the pharmacological issues. It was something like take one an hour before the other, then take the second one with food, or soemthign like that. I'd looked up the rationale at the time and it made a lot of sense to me, but I wasn't on the combo at that point yet.

I am taking biaxin, or should I say clarithromycin, since it's a generic form. I actually did a little research on manufacturers of abx. What brand are you taking? I started with DAVA Abbott, and last time I got one that is produced by Indian pharmaceutical.

I've used several of them, generics from the US, and also the brand name (I think it's Biaxin XL? extended release?).
