I am wondering what the difference is between labs I have heard Igenex makes their own kits for the tests, would like to know if they tend to report all positive bands where other labs only report CDC specific? Am hoping for a test next week that insurance will pay for and not sure if I insist on Igenex if they will cover it? My son's test was positive from ARUP but that was after being put on Zithromax for fluid on his lung (before we knew about the lyme)and that basically caused all he** to break loose for him and FINALLY a western blot was done.

ARUP is a good lab. If you have a positive test there, I'm not sure it is necessary to get tested elsewhere....

Igenex does not accept insurance as far as I know. Medicare maybe..
If you have the money, I would invest in Igenex. My WB was $200.

The only lab that I know of that accepts some insurances and reports non-CDC bands is Stony Brook. But I have no idea which insurances they accept, and have read the doctor needs to specify they report all bands on the script.
I'd consider them a better option than LabCorp or Quest, but not as good as Igenex.

LymeX.. Igenex tests for ALL POSSIBLE bands. Most of the other labs do not. Other labs leave out 31 because it is tied to the failed Lymerix vaccine.
I think there is one other band...???

No, Igenex doesnt accept insurance. I just got a kit from them in the mail yesterday. They do include a form to fill out if you have medicare that says if they(Medicare) don't pay you are responsible. I dont qualify for medicare but I guess its just something standard they put in each kit.

Karen.. just because they don't take insurance does not mean you can't get your ins to pay for it. Get them to reimburse you.

Igenex sends you a form to turn into your insurance company. I know that my insurance doesn't pay as much for out of network, but for my family it was worth the cost.

Why not get tested at ARUP, since that was where your son was tested? Go from there.

Timaca - Good idea, I go to a different clinic from my son but I may inquire if they could use that lab, my insurance did cover the test for my son. Thanks to everyone for their ideas. Carol

Igenex reports all bands. The kits have bands removed (due to the Lyme vaccine that was pulled)for fear there would be too many false positive after people had vaccinations. The vaccine failed horrible and actually gave some people lyme. The test at any other lab than Igenex in my opinion is bunk. I have never heard of the lab you mention.
