I've been playing whack-a-mole with babs and bart for months. I treat one disease for two weeks, then the other disease for the next two weeks.
This has helped, esp. with bart, but babs comes roaring back after about a week and a half off treatment.
Has anyone tried to treat both aggressively at the same time and if you did, what did you do?
Thank you for all replies. I have a phone appt. with my LLMD on Thurs. and would like to bounce around ideas with him!

Yes, you can treat them both at the same time. Bactrim, Mepron, Zith is a combo or Rifampin, Mepron, Zith. THere are many more options, but I think it is a very good idea to treat both at once.

Hubby did this for 8 months. Added in one med at a time and ramped up slowly on each med. Combo of low dose Minocycline, Bactrim, low dose Zithromax, Rifampin and Alinia.
By the time we did this we thought the Babs was already gone from prior treatment, but wanted to be sure. Unfortunately still dealing with the bart after another year of treating that more aggressively.

Maria A -- Hubby took 1 Alinia pill daily for the first 4 months and then 2 Alinia pills daily for the next 8 months. Was actually on Alinia for an entire year.

I am being treated for both right now. My LLMD put me on Mepron- 750mg/2xday, Zithromax- 250mg/2xday, and then said that the bartonella med we were using (an equivalent, but for me cheaper version of) - rifampin - would have to be exchanged for something else. In my case he chose Cipro - 500mg/2xday, since I had pretty bad tendon problems with Levaquin.
I've just started the Mepron/Zith, and was told not to start them and the Cipro at the same time, so I'm going to add that in probably tomorrow or the next day.
I think the few days off of the bart treatment (while I switch between the two) is causing the bart to flare back up. UGG! =(

Thanks for the replies. I forgot to mention that I am allergic to Bactrim.
Doc says that I might have to move on to a different LLMD because my babesiosis is so bad. This scares me. I don't want him to give up on me.
I'm feeling a bit hopeless but I'll never give up.
