Hey everyone!

So, I found a doctor who lives near my area who is awesome, but she isn't an LLMD, and at this moment thats okay, she is very lyme friendly.

in Ontario there are only like 2 LLMD's and its a very long wait for both and I don't have the money or the time to go to the states for treatment.

ANYWAY, I'm getting my Igenix blood testing done tomorrow and being sent away, at that point shes going to start me on minocycline.

I am VERY worried about starting ABX. This might sound crazy but I'm more afraid of having an allergic reaction then the herx, or maybe even the herx itself being horrible.

I've taken tetracycline before, so does that mean I won't be allergic to minocycline?

I think I'm just paranoid because I read some where that this kid went into anaphylactic shock after just one pill and died.

Blahhhhhhh, I hate takking any medication but I can't deal with this fatigue much longer.

I was the same way. It's not as bad as everybody makes it sound.

And getting worked up before-hand can only make it worse.

I do much better with abx's when I don't read the side-effects or when I know nothing going in.

Just do what my doctor says and report to him if anything bad happens. (which hasn't happened to me yet, knock on wood)

My best advice to you is... start poppin em

Modest - Ditto what canefan says. Once you see the LFMD, come back to this site and report the findings.

Just need to build the dose up slowly with Mino. You must have some neuro issues, yes?

Your talking about a very very low risk for anaphylaxis. However, your risk of lyme screwing up your life without treatment is almost 100%.

Here is the risk for penicillin which is the antibiotic that causes this the most often (other antibiotics are even less risky for this reaction).

Anaphylaxis: the frequency of anaphylaxis reaction is reported at 0.004 - 0.015% of PCN (penicillin) courses.

Then if you actually do get Anaphylaxis the risk of death from it while not nice is still pretty low.

Anaphylaxis is a serious allergic reaction that is rapid in onset and may cause death. It has been estimated to be fatal in 0.7 to 2 percent of cases

To stop anaphlaxsis if it occurs you can get a EpiPen for safety to keep incase a reaction happens. (After use you should go to the hospital) If the anxiety of anaphlaxsis despite the low risk is keeping you from getting treatment perhaps getting a EpiPen will make you worry less? They normally aren't given to people unless they have a history for allergic reaction.

I was basically the same way when I was first diag I went from barely taking an aspirin and NO vitamimns or supplements to 3-4 abx at a time and MULTIPLE supplements and vitamins. Up to approx 15 differnet ones (I think-lol).

Im still trying to figure out a way to get them "all in" a day.

Its not easy...but Lyme ISNT easy... I've had ups and downs with some of the meds but your body will let you know and you'll be able to figure it out...Just listen to your body..You'll be fine.

Treatment definently outweighs not getting the help you need. Try not to add the added stress (it could make things worse).

Good luck and God bless,

Karen (:
