Thanks everyone for help. First of all I do try to research and read past post to answer some of my questions--heck I read so much my head spins--lol

but I REALLY need help and opinions on this one.

To sum up...I spoke to my llmd and then took 17 yr old son to our family dr who in turn gave him script for doxy. (acne).

With much coxing the family
Dr is willing to test for lyme and co-infections...I REALLY had to take the lead on this and do the leg work.

ANYWAY...

I called IgeneX and they sent me a kit in the mail with instuctions and price etc.

MY DILEMMA.......

Which test do I get.

We are limited on money but I want to make sure I get the most "bang for money" or "most accurate tests".

The family dr. is going to do the basic tests that my LLMD said would be a good start:

CBC-CMP (SMA-14)
Vit D25
Vit D 1,25

I am also going to have the test for:
Lyme western blot
WA-1 (Babesia)

But im not sure which lyme test to have done.

Igenex has the basic panel (w.b. IgG, igM, lyme ig/igM/MIgA screen (IFA)

but they also have the complete Lyme panel that includes the following:

PCR Serum and whole Blood.

My LLMD did the basic panel on me.

He also had FRY do my bartonella blood (stained) smear.

I am pretty sure lapcorp did my WA-1 which also as the others came back positive.

Im just wondering if people have had better luck with the Bart blood smear rather than having Igenex do that test.

He has symptoms as I for babasia/bart. so I want to try to get the most acurate test for him I can but as I said I do not have a bunch of money for testing.

Do ya'll think I should maybe just start with the WA-1 from lab corp... I definetly want Igenex to do the Western blot just not sure which one). And Im not sure about the bart test yet-at fry that test is 295.00

Thanks for any help, you have no idea how much I appreciate you taking the time to help us.

May God bless you

Karen (:

I have no idea how to even read my results...just know I've got a bunch of positives (like I need a test to tell me how sick I am-lol) so I am at a total loss on which direction to go to help my son.

Heh Karen,

I ordered the # 188 and #189 for the Lyme Western Blot for each of my family members, and let the LLMD clinically diagnose co-infections.

If you would like help reading your results there are many experts here to help.

I am sorry to hear both you and your son are sick. It can be a challenge, and I wish you well.

I would stop the antibiotics for at least 10 days prior to blood draw. But 2 weeks would be better I

think. I am treating my daughter 14 and trying to keep her in school. Her headaches have been

relieved, so I know I am getting some results. But the hardest part is the weakness.

igenex rep said it didnt matter if you were on or off abx when taking the test. Some people think that if you treat for awhile first, it will make the antibodies more liely to show up on the test. my source says that it doesnt matter.

but do what your doctor says.

If money were not an option i would do the lyme test that had pcr in it. I would also do the complete coinfection panel (called something like that)

If money is an issue i would do the IgM and IgG lyme tests and both types of babesia.

thats just my non medical mothers opinion.

good luck
