I'm doing well on Houttuynia, but the cost of Dr. Z's HH is too pricey for long term. I found a supplier, Kalyx.com and they have it in different amounts and my plan is to encapsulate it myself.
They have the powder in a 1:5 ratio and it can be bought in a kilo at a 1:10 ratio. My understanding is HH is 1:9, hence the disgusting fishy smell.
Kalyx also looks like they process their herbs to the same standards.
has anyone bought this from them and used HH also? Was there a significant difference? besides the cost? (based on my calculations, I will get at least 5 times more than HH at half the cost.
If I buy a kilo, then my cost is 3 cents a capsule vs. 71 cents cost of HH.
if I buy the 100 grams, I will have to take 2 capsules to match or surpass the HH.
I am asking because I want to see if it is as disgusting tasting as HH. The more fishy tasting, the better.
Any help would be greatly appreciated since I am weighing in on which one to buy. if it is disgusting, then I will get the kilo since it is more cost effective and less encapsulating.
I was told that if kept in a dark, cool closet, the kilo will last 2 years.

- I'd never have the energy or attention span to make capsules.
And, with houttuynia, if powdered, you don't have to use capsules. This one can be taken as powdered herb in water. Raw herb, now that may contain twigs and such, but the powdered, I've taken straight with water. I've opened up the HH capsules into my mouth.
I also had a ND give me a formula with houttuynia in it - as a powdered granule mix to use with warm water.
I actually love the taste and the smell has never bothered me, I like that, too. But I am the odd on out on that, I guess.
As for storing a bulk supply, remember that an even temperature, dryness and dark also are important elements to longevity. A dark glass jar with a good seal is important. Or a clear glass jar away from light. Have a plan for hot days. -
