My worst symptoms are joint pain (mostly legs), fatigue, and cognitive dysfunction.
Advil/Tylenol etc. doesn't even touch it. My doc gave me Tramadol/Ultram, but I don't notice a difference on that, either.
They gave me Vicodin the last time I was in the ER (with colitis). I'm only taking 1/8 of a tablet (the prescription was 1 tablet every 4 to 6 hours), and I'm asleep inside of an hour.
So I can take that to sleep, if I absolutely have to. But I can't work on it, and I sure can't drive on it.
Is there something between those two on the pain med spectrum maybe? I've found a hot bath is usually helpful, but I can only do that when I'm home.

What dose of Ultram/Tramadol are you on?
50 mg did almost nothing. 100 mg is better. I take tylenol with it, to potentiate it.

- Magnesium, Fish Oil, Curcumin are all helpful to me. If needed, Corydalis. These are much easier on my liver.

I tried Magnesium, but didn't notice much of a difference there either. It's not so much muscle pain, as a deep joint pain, so maybe that's why. Haven't tried any other herbal stuff.

We take the same thing - 100 mg of Tramadol & 325 or 500 mg of Tylenol. I take it 3 times per day.
I take Vicodin occasionly (for the really high pain times). I don't take it every day, maybe once or twice a week. Vicodin doesn't make me tired.

I wear a 50mcg fentanyl patch and take 15mg oxycodone up to 3x a day and a muscle relaxer. I also take tumeric, magnesium, fish oil, and B12. I would suggest seeing a pain specialist to help ease your pain. the last thing that helped me was Accupuncture! I walked in at a level 7 pain and left a 2!!! better than any pain meds I have taken. I was very skeptical. But it really worked.

I think I inherited my mom's low tolerance for medication (advil puts her to sleep!)
I wonder if we have anyone around here that does acupuncture, I'm kind of out in the boonies. I was supposed to go to a pain clinic the first time I had Lyme, but it was through the day when I had work, so I couldn't go.
I'm crossing my fingers that this round of abx treats the cause of it. Last time, the only thing that got rid of the pain was the IV Rocephin he had me on, but he doesn't want to do IV right away. So I'm taking Spectracef and hoping it helps.

I tried Magnesium, but didn't notice much of a difference there either.
My rheumatologist originally prescribed 50 mg Tramadol, to be taken twice daily.
I quickly found out that if I took 100 mg once daily, that I had fairly good pain relief for about six hours. I could go somewhere, or get something done. I took tylenol the rest of the time.
Regarding the magnesium, you can't just "try" it. You need to keep on taking it. It's not absorbed well in the intestines, and so it takes a while.
Magnesium oxide doesn't work very well, but it's cheap, so many companies use it.

I find the vicodin makes me sleepy, too. I take it at night before bed if I'm dealing with pain. The pain can wake me up when I'm sleeping & it's not fun.
I found it was better than taking sleeping meds. The reason I couldn't sleep was because I was in pain...
Oxycodone is good for me if I have pain in the day. I just take 1/2 of a 5mg pill & it usually helps quite a bit. It doesn't make me sleepy. I usually take it with a cup of coffee.
I've tried alot of "natural" things but they don't really help like pain meds do. Light exercise & saunas can sometimes help but you have to be careful & only do what you can. Don't overdo it.
I think everyone is different when it comes to treating pain. Don't be afraid of taking opiates. There have been many studies about pain, opiates, & addiction. People who take opiates for pain rarely get addicted.
They can be a real help so that people who have chronic pain can function.

Yeah, when I say I tried the Magnesium, I mean I took it every day for a few months. When I stopped taking it, I didn't really notice a difference (whereas I notice when I'm not taking vitamins).
I took 100mg of Tramadol last night, around midnight. I felt at least a little bit loopy until around noon today, I was kind of surprised how long that effect lasted.
I had the same problem when my neurologist put me on Lyrica. It did help my leg pain some, but I felt stoned all day.

Tramadol never did much for me - or Lyrica. I think my doc gave me some samples a while back & I tried it.
The only ones that seem to help me are Vicodin & Oxycodone. I really don't like taking pain meds but there's not a whole lot else that cuts through the pain. After a while - I have to do something...
I know some people are alot worse than me & have to take high doses of strong stuff. It very debilitating after a while living with chronic pain.
I didn't find any relief from magnesium, fish oil, or tumeric (natural anti-inflammatories). If I don't take enough magnesium - I start getting charley horses in my feet or legs, though.
