Ok, I'm feeling a little desperate. I took 10 days of flagyl for suspected c.diff. Diarrhea was pretty much gone, still a lot of nausea. My tongue is covered with a thick white coat.

Liquid nystatin was doing nothing. I'm taking s.boulardii, so I don't want diflucan to kill that off. I had an idea to dissolve a diflucan tablet in water and hold it in my mouth and then spit it out.

Is that a crazy idea or could it work? Anyone know?

You could try swishing and gargling with a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and water (1:1). That should kill the yeast in your mouth. Do not swallow the mixture though, it will make you sick.

Another option, try a new mouthwash. There is a product made by Jason brand. It is called "Healthy mouth". It has GSE and Tea tree oil and some other natural antibacterial/antifungal herbs in it. It does not have any alcohol so it won't dry your mouth out. It tastes good too.

I had a weird black furry fungal patch that was growing on the back of my tongue. 2wks of Nystatin liquid and Diflucan did not work. The "healthy mouth" mouth wash took care of the problem in just a couple days.

Or you could call your doctor and ask for a different antifungal prescription. Mycelex lozenges might work for you.

Don't bother trying to dissolve the diflucan tablet. It won't work topically.

Thank you both for the ideas. I didn't know hydrogen peroxide would kill yeast. And hadn't heard of the other mouthwash. I have heard of the lozenges but haven't tried them. Now I'll have to choose one to begin and find what works for me. Thanks again!

Dont do that with Diflucan please. That is not how the drug works. You need oral swish and swallow nystatin or trouches. Antifungals will kill off the Florastor. Take one or the other.

Maybe I'm missing something here.

S. Boulardi from what I understand is good to take to avoid C. Diff and Flagyl from what I know is good to take to help kill C. Diff.

IMO nystatin is pretty much useless, which you've witnessed firsthand since your tongue is still covered with "the white stuff" <yeast>.

Did someone tell you to dissolve diflucan in your mouth and spit it out???

This is a little bizarre to say the least. If you've been prescribed diflucan, you should take it as directed.
