I'm on day two of IV Rocephin. I'm doing 2g daily for 1 month. My LLMD wants me to do 3 months, but I'll see how the one month goes.
So far no increase of symptoms or herx. I know it's still early, but was wondering since IV is stronger if I should expect a stronger/earlier herx? Or not?
I am feeling nauseated and have a metallic weird taste in my mouth from the Rocephin.
What can I expect from this med?
Also, I read that gall bladder protection is needed while taking this, but my dr doesn't have me taking anything.

I was on IV Rocephin for 1 month. At day 3-4, I became extremely ill...headache, stiff and sore neck....dizzy. After about 3 more days, it passed, and the rest of the time on it, I was nearly symptom free.
Don't know if maybe that flare was a herx? Just know that if that occurs, mine did get better each day....tough to go through, though.
I had no side effects from the drug itself...and my MD had labwork drawn weekly while I was on it, which remained normal. No sign that my gallbladder was compromised.
Good luck!

Why does your doctor only want 3 months? Treatment should be open ended until you are well and symptom free, not until 3 months! What else are you taking with the IV Rocephin? You should be on actigall to protect your gallbladder. If your doc did not put you on that, that raises a huge red flag. Try to stay strong but also ask questions about why your doc put a 12 week point on your treatment!

Today I'm feeling a bit blah. Woke up feeling depressed which in an unwelcome visitor. Also have a very stiff neck today too. Don't know if it's a coincidence or not, but it hurts.
I believe I herxed on orals all around 3-5 days, is this usually the same with IV?
My dr is checking my blood/liver labs once a week too to make sure all is good.

Wild Condor, Well actually I'm only starting at one month (per my ID doctor) and my LLMD recommended starting at 3 months. It's hard here because the UK doesn't offer home health nor will my dr let me do the infusions myself. So I'm staying in a hotel for the duration of my infusions since the medical hospital is a way from my home. My insurance is paying for the month because it was from the ID dr. However it won't be covered through my LLMD. And I can't afford months and months of IV. I still have a few bottles of orals (flagyl, zithromax, and amox) but am not taking them right now. Also I'm not taking anything for my gallbladder. Should I ask my dr about this tomorrow? I wish I could do open end IV treatment, but right now I will take what I can get. Luckily I have been feeling better since stopping all orals.

Yes, you should be on actigall. Usually when you start IV it IS by itself for a few weeks then orals are added to make it stronger.
