Hey guys-
Anyone here take Prilosec Rx for reflux-like symptoms and get relief?
I have intermittent but pretty severe stomach, chest, and esophagus pain for the past 6 months.
It comes and goes but at times is really painful.
I've tried a lot of natural stuff as I am not a fan of RX meds really, but most of what I have done has had little or no effect.
I have tried:
Intestimax Slippery Elm Marshmallow Extra high quality probiotics Apple cider vinegar Digestive enzymes
I also am aware that it works by inhibiting stomach acid which can further weaken the immune system by not allowing the body to produce enough acid to ward off bacteria; but if there is too much acid causing such misery I don't currently see a viable alternative.
Any theories on what specifically causes the increased acid production? (if that is in fact the cause)
It's the never ending guessing game. LOL.
Prilosec seems to be a pretty benign medication, has anyone been helped with the symptoms I described above?
Thanks in advance
Derek

I take prilosec-I never had any problems till my tick bite..I think it's from Bart. I would be way more miserable if it wasn't for my prilosec. Make sure you take extra B complex..you can become deficient in it from long term use of acid blockers. Another thing to try is L-glutamine..helps heal the GI tract.
My chest, stomach and esphagus feel pretty good right now!

Derek,
I know this may sound strange, but have you tried HCL with pepsin? People with Lyme can have low stomach acid as you know and it can present with acid reflux type symptoms.
I have taken HCL and it has helped a lot. And of course parasites can cause all of these symptoms as they live in the small intestine.
Are you still taking the Humaworm or did you give up on that since you had a rough time with it?

I would stop guessing and popping various supplements and get a full GI workup to find out what it is. Sounds like acid reflux, but it could be anything. If it is, the HCL will burn a hole in your stomach so be careful folks. B complex can increase nausea FYI. Glutamine is good for the intestines on empty stomach.
