I was reading where it says lyme treatment should not be mixed with any immunosuppressant drugs (Isn't plaquenil in that category?) It says it could be very harmful. Well I just recently found out I was lyme positive and waiting for a doc appointment to see what's up, but I am not sure if I should quite the plaquenil now. My rheum gave it to me cause they figured I have autoimmune (undifferentialted connective tissue, they do not have a name for it yet) so you know docs they feel they have to put you on something. I know you can't give me medical advice on what to take, but is it more hurtful than helpful, and honestly I don't think it made a difference for me at all. Thanks, Jocelyn

i was on plaquenil (and lots of others are too) during lyme treatment. It works with some meds (like biaxin, zithromax) to help the meds penetrate better. It is also a mild cyst buster and could possibly have some mild effect on babesia (although not sure about that really). It also could help with some pain, like joint pain.
I was on it throughout my treatment, as well as others here- combined with abx. and it has helped many.
are you going to see a LLMD?
I just wanted you to know that others do take plaquenil with their abx during lyme treatment too!

My LLMD has me on (and I have been for months-almost a year) Plaquenil with abx. The abx over the months have been Minocin, Bactrim DS, Zitro, Omniceff and Rifiampin.
He is a very good LLMD so Im sure he feels its ok. If you are tolerating the plaquenil I'd say keep taking it.
It is also one of the meds my Dr does not have me pulsing (starting and stopping) so my guess is you could continue it until you can get into se Dr. unless others here know something I dont.
I truly hope you are getting an appt with a LLMD and not just a regular Dr.
Good luck and God Bless,
Karen
