Hi Everyone, looking for experiences on herxing. My daughter just started antibiotics, how long should she expect to herx for? Do you think it would depend on the weight of a person to kill off the toxins?
Thanks,
Laurie

I think it depends more on the persons bacterial load and how well their body detoxes the die-off.

How long was she sick before she started treatment?

Sick since January 1985. Misdiagnosed for 20 years. Tested CDC positive October 2005. Treating since April 2006.

Joalo is right.. has nothing to do with weight.

You can herx for hours, days, weeks, months, years. Ya never know. Let's hope for only days at a time!!!

I got sick last May, and have had relatively mild symptoms. When I started doxycycline in December, I started to herx on the 3rd day.

The next 3 days were awful--I hurt too much to get out of bed. The following week I felt bad but was functional enough to go to work. After that I got back to near what had been "normal" before the drug.

There are several factors that influence it, so it's not really predictable, but it is possible to have a short one.

If she's only been sick 8 months, she'll probably have a lower bacterial load than someone who has been sick, untreated, for a decade.

My daughter has been sick that long also, she has been antiboitics for about 2 months, she just now feeling better, not a 100%, but is becoming more active and able to do things and seems happy, she said she feels like she just woke up, after months of not knowing what was wrong with her. The first month of abx, was really hard, everyday something else hurt. Good Luck to you guys!

My daughter has been on minicycline for about 5 weeks. Started herxing after 4-5 days. Our LLMD said 4-6 weeks of herxing could be expected, but she also said to expect the unexpected!

How old is your daughter? Mine is 16 and has been sick for several years without a diagnosis until last month. I assume her 'herx' is so bad because she went undiagnosed for years.

Hang in there, I hear it gets better with time and patience...

OH yes. I know it messed with my female organs and someone posted recently that while having Lyme they didn't have a period for 7 yrs. Went back to normal after treatment.

You can search for info on this by looking for the little word "search" right under "post new topic."
