My LLMD wants me to start getting an 'IV herbal detox' infusion. Anybody have any experience with such a thing? Sorry, I have no information about what is in it. I'm kinda hoping somebody else has done it & knows what I'm talking about. Thanks.

- Is your LLMD ILADS-educated ? Hopefully. I'm a bit thrown as they don't usually use the term used here- they would call it more of a liver support infusion as it is not the infusion that detoxes but your own body and the infusion supports that. But, as long as your LLMD is ILADS-educated that is good.
And as long as this is not the only treatment you are getting - the infection would still need to be directly addressed. This "detox" will not do that but, rather, help your liver work better to take out the toxins that lyme creates. There are some herbs that are antimicrobial in nature but "detox" herbs have different properties and are mostly supportive in nature. But, it all depends on what is use - and the overall formula combination.
I'd rather see an infusion (or "drip") than a push as the slower infusion is easier on you (especially if it contains magnesium). Don't push it, let it drip in slowly.
Your LLMD obviously has someone experienced in mind to do this. Have you contacted them for details yet. My guess it is would be an IV with (perhaps) glutathione . . . maybe magnesium and some vitamins like B-12, maybe B-complex and some key minerals.
If glutathione is ordered, that often makes people feel MUCH better and it really helps the liver be able to detoxify.
Magnesium can also help the liver and the nerve fibers to calm irritation. Calcium, too. Taurine is often included to help the liver and nervous system, too. It is calming.
The particular infusion that is ordered can vary widely according to the doctor's orders and your needs. Talk to whomever you have been referred to for this - find out the prescription and frequency and go from there.
When you find out what in on the list, you can look up ever single ingredient if you want to so that you know more about it. The doctor doing the infusion may also have some educational materials for you. Just ask.
But, wait, I just looked back over your note. You said an "herbal" detox solution. You are sure the term "herbal" was used?
Then you must be going to a licensed ND (naturopathic doctor) to do this, is that correct? Some MDs can do nutritional supplement infusions as described above but to include herbals, that takes a lot of extra education.
Such an infusion may contain garlic (specifically intended for infusion) but I am not familiar with other herbals used. Many NDs are trained in such methods. Just be sure the person has graduated from an accredited college of naturopathic medicine and is certified to do infusions and licensed in your state.
Now, there are other doctors who are licensed for herbal infusions - and they may be OMDs (doctorate of Oriental Medicine).
My guess is that if you are seeing an ILADS LLMD this is all in perfect order. But if you are not seeing an ILADS LLMD, I would be less sure. Some doctors say they know about lyme and even say they are LL but turn out not to be, often.
Still, first, just find out who the doctor is to whom you've been referred and ask them for all the details. The let us know how it goes. This could turn out to be enormously helpful to you and it can be enjoyable learning about all this and how the process works with your body. -

Thanks, Keebler, for your thoughtful reply. My LLMD is a former ILADS board member. I understand what you are saying about supporting the liver, rather than detoxing the liver.
I am on lots of oral support already. Yes, the term 'herbal' was used. I guess what I need to do is ask directly what is in it.
I was hoping somebody else on the board would recognize who/what I was talking about, & relate a positive experience. I need some hope.
I would have to travel to her office to have these infusions. Travel is very difficult for me at the moment.
