I'm trying to work out how to get some blood testing done before I possibly go see a new LLMD for a second opinion, and I want results in hand when I walk in to the appointment because this requires travel out of state (I love your healthcare system and medical board, North Carolina!).
Right now I'm stuck in a rural area not near my current LLMD and dont' have a 'regular' physician that I can get an appointment with.
My LLMD, who approves of my getting a second opinion, can call things in to a nearby Labcorp, so I'm trying to work out what some of the tests are called there.
As usual, I'm trying to do research BEFORE I talk to my LLMD.
What are the Vitamin D levels tests that LLMDs usually ask for? I havne't had it done before. something about more than one test? Something to the effect of testing for D OH 25 and vit D 1,25 ? Does anyone have a test number from Labcorp? What is it called?
Thank you all very much. M

Yes, those are the vit d test my LLMD had lab corp do for me as well. I just had them done in Jan and will be repeating them in 4 weeks. My sheet had different codes but they may have changed. Either way they (lab corp) will know which ones to do.
I to, have to travel to my LLMD so he just fills out a lab request form and I am able to take it to my local lap corp collection center...which just happens to be about a mile up the road from where I live. (:
I found my area lab by looking on their website (Lab corp).. It will be real easy Maria...just find your area lab, take your sheet, they will draw your blood and send off...then lap corp will send results to your Dr.
I actaully cut it close and even through they had done my lab work it hasnt gotten to my Dr by my appt time...so I called them (lab corp), they were very nice and faxed my results to my Dr so when I came in for visit that morning he had my results in hand.
Good Luck
Karen (:

If possible use a lab such as quest that freezes their blood samples for vit d 1.25 test. Labs that freeze the samples are considered more accurate from what I have read about. I consider the d 1.25 test a way better barometer if your body needs more D.

BTW - have you found a ride to see LymeMD? Just curious... Seems like a good doctor. Is he/she expensive? You can send me a PM if you prefer.

No, I haven't yet found anyone who's going soon. I'll figure it out.
That's really, really interesting about prepaidlab.com. they listed a Labcorp location as the blood draw site. I wonder if that means that there's an additional blood draw fee. I recently got some other tests done, a CMP and a CBC, and the cost at Labcorp was $51 for both- through the website above the cost would have been $38 or so. I'll have to look into that, thank you very much for the link!

Yes. I was having alot of trouble getting a doctor to prescribe growth hormone when my levels were completely below normal (this was before I found out my fibro was Lyme).
I had to do everything myself & I found that you can get all the labwork you need without a doctor... I don't think they charge you for the blood draw but it may be different now.
They were really shocked at the lab when I came in with the paperwork. They couldn't believe that I was doing it on my own... They had to do it, though, because I had all the right paperwork!
It went well & I was able to get my growth hormone levels back to normal. I'm not sure where they are at now. I should probably have it tested again. I didn't notice a big difference in my health either way.

OK, I looked into prepaidlab.com and called them- all the tests you get are priced as on the website, plus $9.95 processing fee for each time you use them. So if I get 5 tests at once, I only pay the $9.95 once.
THEY HAVE A BARTONELLA ANTIBODY TEST- meaning you can order it without having a current doctor! It's $75. I doubt it's very accurate, but for people who are stuck with no way to get coinfection tests through an uncooperative doctor, this might be an option that might have SOME possibility of yielding results.

MariaA, the person that can really tell you about this is TX Lyme Mom. I believe she said that the draw has to be refridgerated or it's absolutely worthless. I don't think LabCorp will do this, but I don't know.
Do a search using TX Lyme Mom. She posted info on D3 here a few months back. It would sure be worth the effort if you're going to all this trouble. She did give a lab name; can't remember which one.
