Has anyone taken bactrim without a macrolide for bart?

My LLMD prescribed it with Rifampin.

I was on both rifampin, which I took forever and it didn't work and then I tried levaquin, which I couldn't tolerate.
My doctor is prescribing bactrim, but no macrolide. I haven't heard of this.

oh, I think that is done. It's just not done the other way around- rifampin without something else. I don't know how effective it is. It's been very effective for me for babesia, which doesn't sound like your problem.

Do a search around the forum for recent posts on Bactrim DS. I know TF, and I believe nefferdun have both had great success using Bactrim DS and pulsing Artemisinin -- if you're not doing that, you need to be.
I hear Bactrim DS is great for Babesia, and also treats Bartonella as well.

Thanks both of you. Yeah, I am trying it for bartonella. Don't have much in the way of babesia symptoms. nefferdun has been GREAT in talking to me about it this week as has Hoosier and cactus - thanks guys. You make my life more hopeful.
I am on artemisinin (can't spell or say that word).
Hoosier and cactus calmed me down a little about this protocol, which is good.
I start it on Monday, we shall see how it goes. I am sure it will be herx first, then hope.

Also, talk to your LLMD about higher doses of Bactrim IF it doesn't seem to work for you and you don't have an allergy to it. High doses work for me (my lab tests seem to say that I have a liver of steel, though, not everyone is so lucky).
Several LLMD's have tried that with patients for babesia, and there are often side effects, but in my case there don't seem to be, which is awesome. Just something to keep in mind.

PLEASE...Keep us updated on your progress with Bactrim. I plan on going that route in the near future, and hearing experiences from others makes this much more comfortable for me.

I will let people know how I am doing. I seem to one way or the other. I have had a tough time of it. I hope that the bactrim agrees with me since the levaquin was more than I could handle.

My daughter is taking Bactrim DS with nothing else. She has lyme and babesia. She was doing great on it but then got a high fever this week - could be that she was herxing though. Today she is much better.

4 tablets a day, which supposedly is really hard for some people.

I was on Bactrim 1 tablet twice a day without macrolides for 6 months. I tolerated it well but I don't think it did anything for me. I took it for Bart and never noticed a difference in symptoms.
That's my experience.

I took it with rifampin and got to remission. 100% well, even my floaters were GONE! Lasted the two months I took it, then three weeks past.
Got sick with C diff after stopping and symptoms came back.
Great drug, wish I could take it, I'd take it for a year or longer with artemisinin.
