I was on IV abx about 3 months ago and soon after I stopped, most of my symptoms came back. Some of them went away, but now I get twitches, my knees are swollen and some of my fingers/toes go numb during nighttime. I do not get the migranes, backaches or leg aches, but my joints ache sometimes. I am confused as to whether I should follow this up or not. I had a terrible experience with the IV abx and ended up in ER, so I am scared to go back for traetment. Did anyone have a similar response to abx treatment?

You have to continue treating lyme disease until all of your symptoms are gone. Then, you treat at least 2 months more to be sure. That info is from the Dr. Joseph Burrascano lyme treatment guidelines.

It doesn't have to be IV antibiotics. Most of us can get rid of this disease with oral antibiotics.

It sounds like you did not get to a doc who was an expert on lyme disease.

You can call your local support groups for some names and recommendations (see Support Groups on left side of page) and you can post in "Seeking a Doctor" forum for VA doctors. If it is northern VA, you can request D.C. and maybe Maryland docs also.

Best to get back on meds as soon as you can. It does NOT have to be IV.

I had undiagnosed lyme disease for at least 10 years, and I got rid of it on oral meds alone. So did all my friends. Don't let fear of IV make you not get any lyme treatment at all.

Thanks for your reply. It is good to know that it can be cured by oral antibiotics alone. I have started to enquire about docs in this area.

I was torn between convincing that this is just an after effect of treatment and actually treating what may be still lyme.

It is unfortunate that some of us have to go through this bad experience which makes it harder to go back to the doctor. It is going to be expensive since I could not get any doctors that take insurance. That is another scary thing and do not know how much it is going to cost.

But your reply definitely made me think about going back. Thanks!

Do you mind sending me a pm on which doctor you got treated from?
