Does anyone know how far apart the mepron has to be taken from the tetracycline so that the tetracycline doesn't reduce the effectiveness of the mepron? Both are to be taken 2x a day. Mepron with fat/food and tetracycline 20 min before food or 1hour later. The pharmacy didn't know the time frame that will work and the llmd's office won't be open till Monday. Anyone know about this? Your suggestions are welcome.

I have wondered the same thing. This is what I do; wake up and take minocycline about 7am. At about 9am, eat and take other antibiotics including mepron.

Hello!

As someone who took Mino and Mepron for what seems a never-ending period of time, it's important not to take these 2 meds close together. nspiker seems to be doing okay with it, but just so you know:

Take tetracycline rx's AT LEAST 2 hours before Mepron, or any other calcium-type based product, and

Take tetracycline rx's AT LEAST 6 hours AFTER Mepron, or any other calcium-type based product.

During my treatment years, I had a number of pharmacists call to advise me about taking the 2 together, as they were concerned that the effectiveness of Tetra derivative(s) would be cut in half by the Mep if I wasn't spacing the drugs properly.

Hope this helps.

If the half life of Doxycycline is 16 hours and I take it twice a day and I take mepron twice a day and it's half life is over 2 days, how do I avoid them affecting each other.

Aren't they kept at constant plasma levels and eliminated at the same time? How does taking them seperately help? I don't understand.

Can anyone explain this to me?

How about zithromax spacing? Is that also a two hour gap or can they be taken together?

I stopped doxy altogether when I began Mepron. I began Mepron and Zithromax together. After 7 mths, I stopped the Mepron but continue the Zithromax. I never did start back on doxy.

Is Mepron a calcium based product?

nspiker - As the 2 pharmacists who called me explained, Mepron is a calcium-TYPE base, in other words, with similar properties. Therefore, the warning from them was to space them as I've posted about. If you do a search on this site, you'll see this info was posted a couple of years ago by Tincup and others.

Who is the doctor prescribing the Mepron?

I am not a physician, so do your own research to confirm any ideas given and then speak with a health care provider you trust.
