I struggle with my daughter's schedule of taking meds, vitamins and supplements. She gets up for school, has her breakfast but has to avoid all dairy products and magnesium when taking her antibiotic. She comes home from school and that's when she takes all her vitamins and she drinks Aloe Vera Juice (Is this good for her)???
Then after dinner, she takes her ABX again. Is it okay for her to be taking all her vitamins, about 5, her probiotic for yeast and Aloe Vera Juice all at the same time? I'm reading stuff on here that Magnesium Deficiency can cause heart palpitations (which she has) and shortness of breath (which she has) How can I get the needed magnesium into her if she can't take any magnesium around her antibiotics???? It's really a struggle with what to feed her (especially breakfast foods). Trying to avoid the sugars, etc... no dairy around her ABX also. What has worked for people, schedule wise? And is Aloe Vera Juice a good supplement for her to drink? She's only drinking a couple of ounces per day. Thank you!

What you are doing seems fine. Although I would be careful about how much Mg you give. In me, too much makes me feel like a rag doll. Heart palpitations and SOB can be caused by other things besides Mg def...so she may not have a Mg def. I can't comment about Aloe Vera Juice...never used it.

Best, Timaca

abbriggs,

Magnesium binds to other supplements and medications, rendering them less effective. It's advised to take magnesium supplements at least 2 hours before or after taking calcium-based supplements or ABX.

laurie,

Maybe it would be best to sit down and sketch out a schedule for her medications.

I have had no problem taking magnesium right before I go to sleep. But, recently I started a whole body cleanse detox, so I'm taking the magnesium in between my other supplements.

I eat 3-5 meals a day. Some meals are snacks of course.

laurie,

While it's true that Mg binds to TETRACYCLINE & its derivatives, I'm not sure that's the case with many other abx. CALL YOUR PHARMACIST! This is the very best way to get info.

Taking Mg around bedtime is really good for relaxation and sleep. However, if your daughter needs more Mg. than that and can deal with it during the day somehow, you might want to try transdermal Mg. Must warn you that it is relaxing and might have a "sleepy" effect.

Mix equal parts water and spray. Use half the recommended sprays to start and work up the dose, else possibly loose bowels. Don't spray undiluted on skin as it will burn. Let parts of skin treated air dry (don't wipe off or dry with a towel). Takes about 15 minutes to enter the body completely.

It sounds like you are doing a good job separating her meds and supplements. She takes her meds with breakfast, supplements after school, meds with dinner, and supplements before bed correct? You could easily add some magnesium with the other supplements after school and before bed.

Why is she taking aloe juice every day? I've only heard of using that as a bowel cleanser. You might want to be careful with that as it may cause diarrhea. Here is an interesting link on aloe:

Breakfast ideas, you could probably run a quick search and find several food posts. Rice milk and almond milk can be used in place of cow milk (just make sure not to buy "enriched" milks, they have calcium added).

You can make many variations of oatmeal. Cook with almond milk to make it a little creamier than with water. Add nuts, berries, apple sauce, cinnamon, unsweetened cocoa powder, etc...

Omelets are good also. Throw in any sort of vegetables. Top with salsa. Boiled eggs are easy to make ahead of time if breakfast is rushed.

Ezekiel bread is good. I like the cinnamon raisin one topped with butter or almond butter.

The Aloe Vera Juice has Magnesium which I thought was a good supplement for her. I read that somewhere.... It hasn't caused her to have any diarhea probably because she only drinks low amounts per day 2 oz. Is it not worth it then?
