"Dr. Klinghardt finds in his experience most with autism or Lyme Disease have this acquired defect and will not improve unless they take massive doses of zinc, somewhere on the order of 200 mg or more a day, which is about ten times the RDA. Unfortunately, this dose causes nausea in many that use it.

I dunno....oysters have a ton of zinc though (so do other shellfish)...I've been trying to eat oysters whenever I get a chance.
But I would like to know if some of us aren't absorbing, no matter how much we consume? Good question, massman.

I am pretty sure that this is one of the nutrients that borrelia robs from us -- think Marnie has talked frequently about zinc fingers in relation to lyme.
But remember you must almost always also take supplemental copper if taking supplemental zinc to keep these two minerals in balance.

No wonder this lyme bacteria is such a super bug.
It robs zinc, serotonin, vit d, mag, cal, b-12 just to name a few. Oh yeah and just for the fun of it, it also eats testosteron and estrogen?

I had Lyme. I don't have KPU. My husband had barely a token of Lyme, but has KPU big time.
Six oysters daily is a bit too much for us and that is what it takes the average KPU patient suffering from it. KPU has been around for a lot longer than the latest epidemic of Lyme.
Blanket statements regarding "take this or that" when suffering from KPU is not a good idea as is when replacing any single mineral elements. The mineral base balance is extremely important for detoxing anything, especially toxic metals, which is the biggest problem for people suffering from KPU. Enzymes are lacking. Certain other minerals are lacking.
Excessive zinc can backfire badly.
It is best to get tested by the lab as described in the above links.
Quoting Dr.K.:
"Mercury alone is toxic, said Dr. Klinghardt. Together with zinc it is many times more toxic. Add in a little copper and silver, as in dental amalgam fillings and the detrimental effect to the body increases manifold. The toxin-induced impairment of our immune system allows microorganisms to enter our system. Once established, they are hard to conquer and removing the causative toxin is no longer enough."
Get tested for KPU and explore Allergie Immun before you do KPU, because if you are allergic at DNA to the toxic metals and many other chemicals, fungi, mold, etc., the crashing on KPU it no joy-ride. My husband is on KPU after doing Allergie Immun and is dropping the toxic metals better than ever possible before, without any suffering whatsoever.
When the toxic terrain load is lowered, infections become a lot easier to deal with.
Take care.

Toxic metals are even greater thieves! The metals dock onto your hormone producing glands resulting in poor hormone balances, etc. etc. etc. Once you kick those off, half the battle with Lyme is won. Toxic terrain - filled with junk and garbage - is the prime hotel and playground for microbes! Once we understand that, we are miles ahead of the game.
Take care.

My New doctor is an associate of Dr K and is adding all these tests recently .. I am not sure what will come of it all but I am willing to check it out.
I know that alot of it is dependent on the doctor and the education and insight they have and what the goal is and what other things are all taken into consideration and trusting that doctor to consider all of it.
Also of course patient education and asking the right questions.

There are also different forms of zinc. I take 210 mg of a type of zinc which only equals 30 mg elemental zinc.
I think for me KPU predates Lyme. I had KPU symptoms WAY before I ever got bitten by a tick. So this treatment was HUGE for me .... but I agree, each person is different.

Canefan - I have heard him say that he is careful with excessive substitution with zinc. Although you have to fill the mineral reserves to achieve successful heavy metal detox, too much zinc reacts with mercury in the brain, can promote the growth of herpes virus and probably other things I have forgotten.
A balanced supplement like the Core has all the KPU essentials.
He has lots of info out there about this.
